…from Springfield, Missouri, to El Reno, Oklahoma (5)

…na nossa juventude, em Portugal, nascemos e crescemos, numa aldeia junto da estrada nacional número 1, a célebre Lisboa ao Porto!. Na nossa memória ainda existem as marcas ao meio da estrada, que a separavam, para se passar um carro por outro, que podia ser um automóvel, uma camioneta, da carreira ou de carga, ou um carro de bois ou qualquer outro animal! Tinha subidas, curvas, poucas rectas, árvores gigantes que quase a atravessavam, marcos avisando a distância de um lugar para outro, placas na entrada das cidades, vilas ou aldeias, muros caiados de branco, marcas de remendos de alcatrão fresco, com que o dedicado “Cantoneiro”, a reparava, no intervalo das “sonecas” que dormia debaixo das já referidas árvores, que aos nossos olhos, eram gigantes, não falando nuns montes de areia do rio, que existiam em alguns locais estratégicos, ao lado dessa famosa estrada, onde nós puláva-mos, saltando atrás uns dos outros, às vezes fugindo do referido “Cantoneiro”, quando o acordáva-mos!. (In our youth, in Portugal, we were born and grew up in a village near the national road No. 1, the famous Lisbon to Porto !. In our memory there are still marks the middle of the road that separated, to pass a car on the other, it could be a car, a truck, career or freight, or oxcart or any other animal! Had climbs, curves, few lines, giant trees that almost crossed, landmarks warning the distance from one place to another, signs at the entrance of cities, towns or villages, whitewashed walls white, brand fresh tar patches, with the dedicated “roadman” the noticed, in between “naps” sleeping under the aforementioned trees, which in our eyes, they were giants, not talking in some river sand hills, which existed in some strategic locations, next to that famous road where we hopped-mos, jumping behind each other, sometimes running away from said “roadman” when the wake-up)!.

…aqui, deste lado do Atlântico, ainda existe uma estrada comparada, que é a “Histórica Route 66”, que percorremos, em homenagem à nossa “Lisboa ao Porto”, do tempo da nossa juventude! (Here, on this side of the Atlantic, there is a comparative road, which is the “Historic Route 66”, which traveled in honor of our “Lisbon to Porto,” our youth of the time)!

…pela manhã, ainda no estado do Missouri, tomámos a estrada rápida 44, rumo ao oeste! (In the morning, still in the state of Missouri, we took the fast road 44, heading west)!

…parámos para encher o tanque com gasolina, era barata, voltando de novo à estrada rápida 44! (We stopped to fill the tank with gasoline, was cheap, returning again to the fast road 44)!

…saindo de novo para a Historica Route 66, com alguma chuva, que logo passou! (Leaving back to the Historica Route 66, with some rain, which soon passed)!

…no lugar de Halltown, no “Whitehall Mercantile” é um óptimo lugar para se encontrar antiguidades! (In town the Halltown, in “Whitehall Mercantile” has long been a great spot to find antiques)!

…tal como quase todos os viajantes, parámos em Paris Springs, apreciando a restaurada “Gay Parita Sinclair Station”!. (As almost all travelers, we stopped in Paris Springs, enjoying the restored “Gay Parita Sinclair Station”) !.

…na vila de Spencer, podemos ver a pitoresca ponte construída no ano de 1926, sobre o riacho de Johnson! (In the town of Spencer, we see the picturesque 1926 bridge, over Johnson Creek)!

…próximo da cidade de Avilla, a famosa estrada tinha um agradável cenário, com animais pastando, todavia a chuva teimava em continuar! (Near the town of Avilla, the famous road had a nice setting, with grazing animals, but the rain persisted to continue)!

…entrámos na cidade de Carthage, no estado de Missouri, pelo leste, enchendo o tanque de gasolina, numa estação de abastecimento, despertou a nossa atenção, um sujestivo monumento, representando o modelo de um  avião antigo! (We entered the city of Carthage, in the state of Missouri, the east, filling the gas tank, a refueling station, aroused our attention, one sujestivo monument, representing the model of an old plane)!

…passámos no lado oeste do Kellogg Lake Park, para ver um cenário, verde com alguns patos bravos, ao longo do “Spring River”, voltando de novo à famosa estrada! (We passed on the west side of Kellogg Lake Park, to see a landscape, green with some wild ducks along the “Spring River”, returning again to the famous road)! 

…atravessando o Spring River! (Across the Spring River)!

…na cidade de Carthage, vendo alguns reclames e murais, ainda do tempo em que esta via era a principal atracção! (In the city of Carthage, seeing some reclames and murals, even the time that this route was the main attraction)!

…a oeste da cidade, ver um filme no clássico 66 Drive In! (West of the town, see a movie at the classic 66 Drive In)!

…passando a cidade de Carterville, chovendo! (Passing the town of Carterville, raining)!

…passando a cidade de Joplin, chovendo! (Passing the city of Joplin, raining)!

Adeus, estado de Missouri! (Goodbye, state of Missouri)!

…no estado de Kansas, a Historica Route 66, percorre cerca de 13 milhas. É o único estado em que esta famosa estrada não tem a seu lado uma estrada rápida, mas embora seja curto em milhas, o seu percurso é longo em charme e história, de modo que se pode relaxar e desfrutar deste pequeno canto, da antiga e famosa estrada! (In the state of Kansas, the Historica Route 66, runs about 13 miles. It is the only state in which this famous road has beside a fast road but although short in miles its course is long on charm and history, so that you can relax and enjoy this little corner of the old and famous road)!

…parámos na cidade de Afton, já no estado de Oklahoma, vendo algumas “relíquias”, de quando esta famosa estrada por aqui passava, sendo a sua principal atração! (We stopped in the town of Afton, since the state of Oklahoma, seeing some “relics”, when this famous road passed through here, and its main attraction)!

…ainda em Chelsea, depois de conduzir numa parte da historica estrada em cascalho, podemos atravessar a ponte de ferro, construída em 1926, sobre o riacho de Pryor! (Still in Chelsea, after conducting a part of historic gravel road, we cross the iron bridge, built in 1926, over Pryor Creek)!

…a Historica Route 66, segue ao lado do caminho de ferro! (The Historic Route 66 follows next to the railway)!

…voltámos à estrada rápida 44, que no estado de Oklahoma se chama “Will Rogers Turnpike”, para pagar a portagem!  (We returned to the fast road 44, in the state of Oklahoma is called “Will Rogers Turnpike,” to pay the toll)!

…passando sobre o rio Verdigris, próximo da cidade de Catoosa! (Passing over the river Verdigris, near the city of Catoosa)!

…mais uma atração da Route 66, desta vez um park diversões chamado “Baleia Azul”, na cidade de Catoosa! (Another attraction Route 66, this time an amusement park called “Blue Whale” in the city of Catoosa)!

…casinos, próximo da cidade de Catoosa! (Casinos, near the city of Catoosa)!

…passando sobre o rio Arkansas, próximo da cidade de Tulsa! (Passing over the Arkansas River, near the city of Tulsa)!

…atravessamos a cidade de Tulsa, viajando na estrada rápida 44! (We crossed the city of Tulsa, traveling on the fast highway 44)!

…próximo da cidade de Sapulpa, saímos da estrada rápida 44 returnando à Route 66, para passar sobre a “Rock Creek Bridge”, que é uma ponte com o piso em tijolos! (Near the city of Sapulpa, we left the fast road 44, return to Route 66, to pass on the “Rock Creek Bridge,” which is a bridge to the floor bricks)!

…na cidade de Chandler, este classico letreiro! (In the city of Chandler, this classic sign)!

…na cidade de Oklahoma, a rota do Capitol, era a Route 66, que  foi a “linha principal”, desde o ano de 1926 até ao ano de 1954! (In Oklahoma City, the Capitol route, was “mainline” 66, from 1926 to 1954)! 

…retornando à estrada rápida 44! (Returning to the fast road 44)!

…depois de arrumar todos os utensílios que um viajante acostumado a pernoitar em Parques de Campismo, costuma usar, tivemos que esperar algum tempo para que o escritório do Parque abrisse, para fazer o respectivo pagamento, pois na noite anterior, devido ao adiantado da noite, não foi possível fazer o respectivo. (After pack up all the utensils one used traveler to stay overnight in Camping sites, frequently use, we had to wait some time for the office park opened, to make the payment, because the night before, because of the lateness of the night, it was not possible to make its).

…seguimos a Route 66, com a estrada rápida 55 ao lado, tal como o caminho de ferro, rodeados de campos de milho. (We follow the Route 66, with fast road 55 next, as the railway, surrounded by cornfields).

…um pouco antes da cidade de Chatham, querendo seguir pela famosa Route 66, depois de mais ou menos uma milha, a famosa estrada, terminava numa área pantanosa, voltámos para trás, tomando outra via, chegámos à cidade de Auburn, onde existe uma coisa rara, que é uma secção de estrada com a distância de mais ou menos um quarto de milha, feita em tijolos!. (Just before the town of Chatham, wanting to take the famous Route 66, after about a mile, the famous road ended in a swampy area, we returned back, taking another route, we reached the city of Auburn, where there is one thing rare, which is a road section with a distance of about a quarter mile, made from bricks)!

…antes da cidade de Litchfield, existe uma atracção na Route 66, que consiste numa imagem de Nossa Senhora, para protecção do viajante! (Before the city of Litchfield, there is an attraction on Route 66, which consists of an image of Our Lady, for traveler protection)!

…imagens como esta, aparece constantemente nesta famosa estrada. Esta é na cidade de Litchfield, Illinois. (Images like this appear constantly on this famous road. This is the city of Litchfield, Illinois).

…seguimos na estrada rápida 55, ao lado é a famosa Route 66, e ao lado, mais acima, (que não se consegue ver), é o caminho de ferro! (We follow the fast road 55, is next to the famous Route 66, and next to, above, (which you can not see), is the railway)!

…na cidade de Mt. Olive, é lugar obrigatório parar e apreciar a restaurada Soulsby Station. As pessoas gostam de ver o letreiro antigo, vermelho e amarelo das bombas de gasolina Shell, que abriu no ano de 1926, e serviu os automobilistas por 65 anos! (In the city of Mt. Olive is required place to stop and enjoy the restored Soulsby Station. People like to see the old sign, red and yellow of the gas station Shell, which opened in 1926, and served the motorist for 65 years)!

…campos de milho ao lado da famosa estrada! (Corn fields beside the famous road)!

…a cidade de St. Louis aproxima-se! (The city of St. Louis is approaching)!

…outro restaurado, antigo e bonito letreiro, frequente nesta famosa estrada. Este é na cidade de Mitchell, Ilinois, dizem que naquela época, este bonito letreiro envolvia “foras da lei”, como Al Capone, que usava frequentemente esta famosa estrada, jogos de azar e senhoras da noite, que eram atraídas por este anúncio de néon! (Another restored, ancient and beautiful common sign on this famous road. This is the city of Mitchell, Illinois, say that at that time, this beautiful marquee involved outlaws, like Al Capone, who often used this famous road, gambling and ladies of the night, who were attracted to this neon sign)!

…muitos visitantes desta famosa estrada, fazem um desvio na sua normal rota, para ver a famosa ponte que atravessava o rio Mississippi, e que ainda hoje dá pelo nome de “Old Chain of Rocks Bridge”, que se situa ao norte da cidade de St. Louis e, naquela época era parte da Route 66 e a via que se usava para atravessar o rio Mississippi. Originalmente tinha uma pequena curva no meio do rio,  hoje pode-se caminhar em algumas áreas. É um Nacional Registrado Historico Lugar! (Tomei a liberdade de tirar estas fotos do Goglle, para mostrar a beleza do lugar) (Many visitors of this famous road, make a detour in its normal route, to see the famous bridge that spanned the Mississippi River, which today goes by the name of “Old Chain of Rocks Bridge”, which is located north of the city of St. Louis and at the time was part of route 66 and route that was used to cross the Mississippi river. Originally had a small bend in the river, today you can walk in some areas. It is a National Registered History Place! (I took the liberty to take these photos Goglle, to show the beauty of the place)

…ao atravessar a cidade de St. Louis, passando para o estado Missouri,  já depois de passar a fronteira, havia obras na estrada com sinalização não muito explícita, por duas vezes seguimos a indicação dos letreiros e por duas vezes o destino era o centro da cidade, onde acabava a sinalização, decidimos voltar ao início ignorar a sinalização e seguir em frente, o que estava certo, e nos levou a sair da cidade e retornar à famosa Route 66! (Crossing the city of St. Louis, going to the Missouri state already after crossing the border, there were works on the road with not very explicit signaling twice follow the indication of the signs and twice the target was the center of city, where it ended signaling, decided to go back to the beginning ignore the signs and move on, what was right, and took us to leave the city and return to the famous Route 66)!

…passando em frente ao famoso naquela época, “Gardenway Motel”, home, parece que está fechado, talvez não, em Villa Ridge, Missouri! (Passing in front of the famous at the time, “Gardenway Motel” now seems to be closed, perhaps not, in Villa Ridge, Missouri)!

…na cidade de Stanton, não resistimos a este Museum! (In the town of Stanton, we do not resist this Museum)!

…na cidade de Cuba, a restaurada “Bob’s Gasoline Alley! (In the town of Cuba, restored “Bob’s Gasoline Alley)!

…saindo da Route 66, entrando na estrada rápida 44! (Leaving the Route 66, entering the fast road 44)!

…próximo da cidade Rolla, no estado de Missouri, não resistimos a este letreiro, parámos, fomos ver o “Mule Trading Post”, na verdade é um “paraíso” para os viajantes da Route 66, tem lá os mais variados produtos referentes a esta famosa estrada!  (Near Rolla town, in the state of Missouri, did not resist this sign, we stopped, we went to see the “Mule Trading Post,” is actually a “paradise” for travelers on Route 66, there is a wide variety of products related to this famous road)!

…na estrada rápida 44, próximo da cidade de Springfield, no estado de Missouri, existe um Centro de boas-vindas, onde se pode obter toda a informação sobre esta famosa estrada! (In the fast road 44, near the city of Springfield in the state of Missouri, there is a welcome center where you can get all information about this famous road)!

…o tempo dáva-nos a entender que iria chover em breve, passámos pela cidade a caminho do RV Parque! (The weather gave us to understand that it would rain soon, we passed through the city en route to the RV park)!

…preparámos a refeição da noite, que até foi a única do dia, comemos e, quando tudo arrumado, já quase dormindo, começou a chover torrencialmente, por um período longo, inundando o solo, com uma altura de água que arrastava todo! (We prepared the evening meal, which even was the only in the day, and when everything tidy, almost asleep, began to rain heavily for a long period, flooding the ground with a height of water that dragged everything)!

Estamos contentes por partilhar esta aventura com todos vocês! (We are pleased to share this adventure with you all)!

…era manhã quando saímos do RV Park, que fica situado no “Ohio Turnpike”, na cidade de  West Unity, no estado de Ohio, seguindo em direção ao oeste! (It was morning when we left the RV park, which is located in the “Ohio Turnpike”, in the city of West Unity, in the state of Ohio, following in the west)!

…depressa alcançámos o estado de Indiana, o tempo dáva-nos mostra que iria chover em breve, mas por enquanto não chovia! (Quickly achieved the state of Indiana, the weather gave us shows that it would rain soon, but for now it was not raining)!

…aproximáva-nos da cidade de Chicago, o tráfico aumentava, nós procurávamos a Adams Street, o destino para começar a aventura de percorrer a “Historic Route 66”!. (Approached in the city of Chicago, the traffic increased, we were looking to Adams Street, the destination to get to go to adventure “Historic Route 66”) !.

…encontrámo-la, a Adams Street, com o sinal da Historica Route 66!  (We met the historic street, the Adams Street, with signal Historic Route 66)!

…procuramos estacionamento, caminhámos por algumas avenidas, fazendo um pequeno percurso, uma espécie de “loop”! (Look for parking, we walked for a few avenues, making a small way, a kind of “loop”)!

…visitámos a Willis Tower, (antiga Torre do Sears)! (We visited the Willis Tower (formerly Sears Tower)!

…subimos ao 103 andar, dos 108 que a completam, fazendo deste edifício por alguns anos, o maior do mundo, tirando as fotografias, que todos os visitantes tiram! (Climb the 103 floor of the 108 that complete, making this building for a few years, the largest in the world, taking photographs, that all visitors take)!

…lá de cima, vê-se ao longe, é bonito, embora o tempo não estivesse muito limpo! (Up there, see in the distance, it is beautiful, although the weather was not very clean)!

…voltámos à Adams Street, dando assim início à nossa aventura! (We went back to Adams Street, thus beginning our adventure)!

…já chovia, quando passava-mos pelas ruas de Chicago, viajando na “Historic Route 66”! (Since it rained while on the streets of Chicago, traveling in the “Historic Route 66”!

..a primeira paragem foi na cidade de Joliet, com a chuva fazendo companhia! (The first stop was in the city of Joliet, with the rain making company)!

…nesta cidade existe um pequeno parque, assinalando a “Historic Route 66”, com casas comerciais da época em que esta via era a principal atração! (In this city there is a small park, marking the “Historic Route 66”, with business houses from the time that this route was the main attraction)!

..seguindo em direção ao sul, vem as cidades de Elwood e Willmington, onde parámos para a fotografia, com o “Gemini Giant”! (Moving toward the south, is the towns of Elwood and Willmington where we stopped for a photo with the “Gemini Giant”)!

…na cidade de Braidwood, visitamos o “Elvis”, Polka Dot Drive In, com decoração dos anos 50! (In the town of Braidwood, we visited the “Elvis” Polka Dot Drive In, with decoration of the 50s)!

…o tempo já estava mais limpo quando parámos na cidade de Gardner, onde entre outras atrações está um edifício, que foi a cadeia, construida no ano de 1906! (The weather was already cleaner when we stopped in the town of Gardner, where among other attractions is a building, which was the jail, built in 1906)!

…mais para sul, existe a cidade de Dwight, encontrámos a restaurada “Ambler’s Texaco Garage”, que é um Nacional Registrado Histórico Lugar, com um pequeno parque alusivo à historica estrada! (Further south, there is the city of Dwight, we found the restored “Ambler’s Texaco Garage”, which is a National Registered Historic Place with a small park commemorating the historic road)!.

…seguimos em direção ao sul! (We head south)!

…surge-nos a cidade de Odell! (Appears to us the city of Odell)!

..entre outras atracções está a “1932 Standard Station”, que também é um Nacional Registrado Historico Lugar, restaurada por pessoas voluntárias, e hoje é uma das principais atrações da “Historica Route 66”!(Among other attractions is the “1932 Standard Station”, which is also a National Registered History Place, restored by volunteers, and today is one of the main attractions of the “Historica Route 66”)!

..a cidade de Pontiac, é um mandatário lugar para se parar, para quem viaja nesta histórica estrada, tem um parque alusivo, com edifícios da época, incluindo um museu, onde se pode ver carros e utensílios usados pelas pessoas que na época por aqui circulavam! (The city of Pontiac, is a representative place to stop for those traveling this historic road, it has an allusive park with buildings of the time, including a museum where you can see cars and utensils used by people who at the time here they circulated)!

..circulando para sul, encontramos muitos históricos lugares, por onde esta histórica estrada passava, não resistimos em fotografar estas placas de sinalização em Chenoa! (Circling south, we find many historical places, where this historic road passed, we could not resist photographing these signposts in Chenoa)!

…parávamos aqui e ali, como por exemplo a cidade de Lexington, a história estrada estava em boas ou más condições de se transitar, mas a paisagem era linda com alguns campos de milho ou outros cenários, mas uma constante era, que ao lado passa sempre a linha do comboio, e claro, uma estrada rápida, que seguiu o seu trajecto para a California! (We stopped here and there, such as the city of Lexington, the road history was in good or bad condition of transition, but was beautiful scenery with some corn fields or other scenarios, but was constant, that the side always passes the line of the train, and of course, fast road, which followed his journey to California)!

….finalmente parámos para comer e dormir no Park de RV, em Springfield,  no estado Illinois! (Finally we stopped to eat and sleep in Park RV in Springfield, the Illinois state)!

…cozinhámos e comemos bacalhau! (Cook and eat cod)!

…temos muito prazer em compartir convosco esta aventura!. (We are happy to share with you this adventure) !.
