…o dia amanheceu com céu limpo, o lago, que faz parte do lugar onde estamos acampados estava sereno, a água parecia um espelho, sinal de que ia ser um bom dia!. (the day dawned with a clear sky, the lake, which is part of the place where we are camped, was calm, the water looked like a mirror, a sign it was going to be a good day)!.

…entrámos na estrada, dirigindo-nos para sul, hoje os nossos planos eram talvez, se não houvesse imprevistos, atravessar a fronteira para os USA, ou seja “regressar a casa”!. Com vontade de beber um café bem quente e comer algo, assim como alimentar a nossa “White Fox” com alguma gasolina, parámos na simpática povoação de Williams Lake, era logo a seguir, o sol despertava, havia aqueles restaurantes, que é normal se ver na estrada, onde não é preciso dizer o que queremos, basta dizer, “quero o número 4, ou 5, ou até mesmo 6, dada a variedade de “iguarias”, que existem à nossa disposição!.  Perdão, já nos esquecíamos de dizer que na simpática povoação de Williams Lake, as indústrias primárias nesta área são, a silvicultura, a exploração madeireira, a moagem, a mineração e pecuária, mas também é famosa porque este lugar, é o anfitrião de muitos dos melhores cowboys!. (we entered the road, heading south, today our plans were perhaps, if there was no unforeseen, crossing the border to the USA, that is “return home”!. Feeling like drinking hot coffee and eating something, as well as feeding our “White Fox” with some gasoline, we stopped at the friendly village of Williams Lake, it was soon after, the sun was awakening, there were those restaurants, which is normal if to see on the road, where it is not necessary to say what we want, suffice to say, “I want the number 4, or 5, or even 6, given the variety of “delicacies”  that exist at our disposal!. Forgiveness, we have forgotten  to say that in the friendly village of Williams Lake, the primary industries in this area are, forestry, logging, milling, mining and livestock farming, but it is also famous because here plays host to many top cowboys!

…começaram a aparecer algumas povoações com o nome de tantas milhas House, e a explicação era esta!. 100 Mile House era originalmente como Bridge Creek House, com o nome do riacho que atravessava a área. As suas origens, como um assentamento, voltam ao tempo em que Thomas Miller usou uma coleção de edifícios desabrigados, que serviam o trânsito do Gold Rush, como um ponto de repouso para os viajantes que se deslocavam entre Kamloops e Fort Alexandria, que estava a 98 milhas (158 km) ao norte de 100 Mile House, um pouco mais adiante ao HBC Brigade Trail. A povoação adquiriu o seu nome actual, durante o Cariboo Gold Rush, onde uma casa de hospedaria, foi construída em 1862, às 100 milhas (160 km), onde marca a Old Cariboo Road, desde Lillooet!. …paramos na povoação de Clinton, para perguntar se vamos na direção certa para poder entrar na estrada 99, onde uma simpática senhora nos deu a informação, não dizendo quantos quilómetros faltavam, mas sim o tempo que demorava a chegar àquela estrada!. Também nos questionou porque não ficávamos mais tempo nesta povoação, pois aqui tem uma série de atracções, incluindo passeios a cavalo, visualização da paisagem, caminhadas, pesca e outras actividades ao ar livre!. (we stopped at the village of Clinton to ask if we were going in the right direction to be able to enter Highway 99, where a nice lady gave us the information, not saying how many kilometers were missing, but how long it took to get to that road! He also asked us why we did not stay in this village any longer, because here has a number of attractions including horseback riding, viewing, hiking, fishing and other outdoor activities)!.

…no nosso roteiro, estava a indicação de que viajando pela estrada 99, o cenário era lindo, com a natureza em sua plenitude, portanto neste lugar, que a tal senhora na povoação de Clinton nos disse o tempo que demorava a chegar aqui, é a entrada na estrada 99, portanto cá vamos, a partir de agora, é estrada 99, para sul!. (in our itinerary was the indication that traveling on Route 99, the scenery was beautiful, with nature in its fullness, so in this place, that the lady in the village of Clinton told us the time it took to get here , it’s the entrance on Highway 99, so here we go, from now on, it’s Highway 99, south)!.

…já na estrada 99, o primeiro cenário que nos despertou a atenção foi este lago, que segue por uma distância de aproximadamente 6 quilómetros junto à estrada, tem casas escondidas na sua margem, que estão protegidas pela montanha!. O lago chama-se Pavilion Lake!. (already on the road 99, the first scenario that attracted our attention was this lake, which follows a distance of approximately 6 kilometers along the road, has houses hidden on its banks, which are protected by the mountain!. …a estrada segue por alguma zona plana, de repente começou a aparecer pequenas montanhas, mais montanhas, agora maiores, desfiladeiros e, lá no fundo vai o Rio Fraser, corre umas vezes calmo, outras com revolta, agressivo, com águas a saltarem no ar!. O rio Fraser é o rio mais longo dentro da Colúmbia Britânica, cresce no Passe Fraser, perto da Montanha Blackrock nas Montanhas Rochosas, e flui por 1.375 quilómetros (854 mi), até ao Estreito da Geórgia, na cidade de Vancouver,  para onde leva por ano mais de 20 milhões de toneladas de sedimento, que entram no oceano! …continuando em direção ao sul, ao descer a montanha, está um dos cenários mais bonitos desta estrada, é a povoação de Lillooet, considerado um dos mais antigos locais habitados continuamente no continente, a área é considerada pelos arqueólogos como habitada por vários milhares de anos, é do lado de lá do Rio Fraser, onde se pode ver uma ponte de ferro, que deve ligar a estrada à povoação. O local tem painéis informativos, as fotos todas saiem boas, pode-se fotografar de qualquer angulo que tudo fica bem!. (continuing southwards, when descending the mountain, is one of the most beautiful scenery of this road, is the village of Lillooet, considered to be one of the oldest continuously inhabited locations on the continent, the area is reckoned by archaeologists to have been inhabited for several thousand years, it is on the other side of the river Fraser, where you can see an iron bridge, which must connect the road to the village. …depois de atravessar a ponte sobre o Fraser River, logo à direita, está um pequeno parque, com painéis informativos referentes ao local, com destaque para a povoação de Lillooet. Aqui, conhecemos o simpático casal, os Magnell’s, que já andavam na estrada há aproximadamente um mês, com a sua caravana e carro antigo, tudo muito limpo e arrumado, disseram-nos que vinham do Oceano Pacífico e viajavam em direcção ao Oceano Atlantico, queriam estar junto dos dois oceanos, onde pensavam chegar lá para Setembro!. Muito Boa Viagem Magnell’s, foi com muito prazer que os conhecemos!. (after crossing the bridge over the Fraser River, just to the right, is a small park, with informative panels concerning the place, highlighting the village of Lillooet. Here we met the lovely couple, the Magnell’s, who had been on the road for about a month, with their caravan and old car, all very clean and tidy, they told us they were coming from the Pacific Ocean and traveling towards the Atlantic Ocean, they wanted to be near the two oceans, where they thought to get there by September! …o cenário continuava, atravessámos a ponte sobre o Power Canal, cujo piso e parte da estructura é em madeira, só passa um veículo de cada vez e, temos que espreitar e, se estiver outra viatura do outro lado, fazemos sinal, combinando quem passa primeiro!. (the scenery continued, we crossed the bridge over the Power Canal, whose floor and part of the structure is made of wood, only one vehicle passes at a time and we have to peer and if there is another vehicle on the other side, combining who passes first!

…nem que não houvesse tempo, tínhamos que parar, pois o barulho da água ao passar pelas rochas que compunham o fundo do ribeiro, despertavam a nossa atenção!. …outra paragem obrigatória no, Parque Provincial Duffey Lake, que está localizado no lago do mesmo nome, que fica ao longo de B. C. Highway 99, a leste da cimeira do Cayoosh Pass. O fluxo e a saída do lago é no Cayoosh Creek !. É marcado por um enorme acumulação de troncos de madeira, com muitos anos de existência!. (another must stop in, Duffey Lake Provincial Park is located at lake of the same name, which lies along B. C. Highway 99, just east of the summit of Cayoosh Pass. The lake inflow and outflow are Cayoosh Creek!. Is marked by a massive log jam)!.

…por volta de 1960, quando a estrada 99 foi construída, a povoação de Pemberton, só era acessível por comboio, hoje os habitantes, devem lembrar-se quando 100 anos atrás, ou seja por volta de 1860, passaram por aqui cerca de 30,000 mineiros, na corrida ao ouro no Fraser Canyon Gold Rush!. (around 1960, when road 99 was built, the village of Pemberton, was accessible only by train, today the inhabitants, must remember when 100 years ago, that is to say around 1860, have passed here around of 30,000 miners in the gold rush at Fraser Canyon Gold Rush)!.

…já na vila, por entre algum tráfico, procurámos um parque para estacionar a nossa “White Fox”!. (already in the village, through some traffic, we looked for a park to park our “White Fox”!

…depois de estacionar a nossa “White Fox”, já a caminho da Vila Olimpica, passamos ao lado da Casa dos Bombeiros, “os soldados da paz”!. (after parking our “White Fox”, on the way to the Olympic Village, we passed the Firemen’s House, “the soldiers of peace”)!.

…chegámos à Vila Olimpica, tirámos fotos, percorremos os lugares que todos os visitantes procuram, os lugares onde os atletas olimpicos se reuniam, onde recebiam as medalhas, todos aqueles pormenores que vemos na televisão e nos jornais, quando se realizam estes eventos!. Estamos a falar da hoje cidade de Whistler e, ainda não falámos do que representa, como começou ou onde está localizada, portanto cá vai!. (we arrived at Vila Olimpica, took photos, walked the places that all the visitors look for, the places where the Olympic athletes met, where they received the medals, all those details that we see on television and in the newspapers, when these events take place !. We are talking about today’s city of Whistler and we have not talked about what it stands for, how it started or where it is located, so here it goes)!.

…mais de dois milhões de pessoas visitam Whistler anualmente, primeiro para o esqui alpino e o snowboard e, no verão, praticar bicicleta de montanha, no Whistler Blackcomb. A vila, onde se pode e deve caminhar, ganhou inúmeros prémios de design e,  Whistler foi eleito entre os principais destinos da América do Norte, pelas principais revistas de esqui desde meados da década de 1990. Durante as Olimpíadas de Inverno de 2010, Whistler hospedou a maioria dos eventos Alpinos, Nórdicos, de Luge, de Esqueletos e de Bobsled, embora o esqui estilo livre e todos os eventos de snowboard fossem hospedados em Cypress Mountain, perto de Vancouver!. (over two million people visit Whistler annually, primary for alpine skiing and snowboarding and, in summer, mountain biking at Whistler Blackcomb. Its pedestrian village has won numerous design awards and Whistler has been voted among the top destinations in North America by major ski magazines since the mid-1990s. During the 2010 Winter Olympics, Whistler hosted most of the alpine, Nordic, luge, Skeleton, and Bobsled events, though freestyle skiing and all snowboarding events were hosted at Cypress Mountain near Vancouver.

…a primeira pesquisa britânica da Royal Navy, ocorreu na década de 1860. Esses topógrafos chamaram à montanha, a montanha de Londres, por causa do nevoeiro pesado e a nuvem que normalmente estava sempre em torno da montanha, mas a área adquiriu informalmente o nome “Whistler” devido a uma espécie de marmota que habita as montanhas do noroeste da América do Norte, que vivem perto da linha de árvores nas encostas com alguma vegetação para comer, nas áreas com rochas para se esconderem. (the first British survey by the Royal navy took place in the 1860s. These surveyors named the mountain London Mountain because of the heavy fog and cloud typically gathering around the mountain, but the area informally acquired the name “Whistler” due to the call of the hoary marmot)!.

…antes de dizer adeus à Vila Olimpica, fomos comer alguma coisa e beber duas cervejas, a um restaurante, dos muitos que por ali havia!. (before saying goodbye to Vila Olimpica, we went to eat something and drink two beers, one restaurant, the many that were there)!.

…entrámos na área da cidade de Vancouver, a ponte Lions Gate era já ali, o tráfico aumentava, quando pela ponte passámos tirámos algumas fotos da Baía e da cidade, ao longe!. (we entered the Vancouver area, the Lions Gate bridge was already there, the traffic was increasing, as we passed by the bridge we took some pictures of the Bay and the city in the distance)!.

…como já dissemos por diversas vezes, as cidades passam-se, por norma não se pára, só se houver necessidade de comprar algo que se precise mesmo, mas Vancouver é uma cidade que quer se queira ou não, dizem que se deve visitar, tem a maior densidade de população do Canada, é a quarta densidade de população na America do Norte, logo atrás de Nova Yorque, São Francisco e a Cidade do México, está nas cinco melhores cidades  como melhor qualidade de vida, enquanto a silvicultura continua sendo sua maior indústria, Vancouver é conhecida como um centro urbano cercado pela natureza, tornando o turismo a sua segunda maior indústria. Os principais estúdios de produção cinematográfica em Vancouver e nas proximidades de Burnaby transformaram Great Vancouver e áreas próximas em um dos maiores centros de produção de filmes da América do Norte, ganhando o apelido da indústria cinematográfica, “Hollywood North”!. Tudo isso, nos fez pensar em ficar por aqui esta noite, mas o dia já ia longo, a fronteira era já ali, o tráfico não nos dava muita oportunidade para procurar um parque de RV, pelo menos próximo da cidade, estacionar a nossa “White Fox”, junto a um hotel na cidade, era tarefa um pouco difícil, portanto decidimos por tomar o rumo do sul, rumo à fronteira, rumo a nossa casa e, um pouco pepois estávamos na fronteira com os USA, esperando na linha, desejosos de ver a placa onde diz, “Welcome to USA”!. (as we have said many times, the cities go by, it usually does not stop, only if there is need to buy something that is really needed, but Vancouver is a city that wants to or not, say visit, has the highest population density of Canada, is the fourth population density in North America, just behind New York, San Francisco and Mexico City, is in the five best cities as a better quality of life, while forestry remains its largest industry, Vancouver is well known as an urban centre surrounded by nature, making tourism its second-largest industry. Major film production studios in Vancouver and nearby Burnaby have turned Great Vancouver and nearby areas into one of the largest film production centres in North America, earning it the film industry nickname, “Hollywood North”!. All this makes us think about staying here tonight, but the day was already long, the border was already there, traffic did not give us much opportunity to look for an RV park, at least near the city, park our “White Fox”, next to a hotel in the city, was a difficult task, so we decided to take the south course, to the border, to our house and, a bit later we were on the border with the USA, waiting in line, eager to see the sign where it says, “Welcome to USA”)!.

…viajámos na estrada número 1 para a fronteira, havia uma linha longa, onde esperámos pela nossa vez!. (we traveled on road number 1 to the border, there was a long line, where we waited for our turn)!.

…na cidade de Mount Vernon, no estado de Washington, no parque de RV, confeccionámos a nossa refeição, (não, não e não), desta vez não foi salmão, foram conservas vindas de Portugal, comemos e dormimos na nossa “White Fox”!. (in Mount Vernon, Washington State, RV park, we made our meal, (no, no and no), this time it was not salmon, it was preserved from Portugal, we ate and slept in our “White Fox”!.
