Highway 95, Delaware! (Welcome to Delaware)

…passámos pelo estado de Maryland, era manhã, entrámos no estado de Delaware, que devido à sua situação geográfica, viajando na estrada 95, no sentido norte, tanto nos dá um bom acesso ao estado de Pennsylvania, como ao estado de New Jersey, que são os estados onde estão os nossos descendentes!. Aqui, no estado de Delaware, onde antes do seu litoral ser explorado pelos europeus no século 16, foi habitado por vários grupos de nativos americanos, incluindo os “Lenape” no norte e os “Nanticoke” no sul. Inicialmente foi colonizado por comerciantes Holandeses, em Zwaanendael, perto da atual cidade de Lewes, por volta do ano de 1631, local onde passaremos daqui a uns dias, quando do regresso ao sul, mas continuando a falar de Delaware, em Dezembro de 1787, tornou-se o primeiro estado a ratificar a Constituição dos Estados Unidos, e desde então, promoveu-se como “O Primeiro Estado”!. (we passed through Maryland, it was morning, we entered the state of Delaware, which due to its geographic location, traveling on highway 95, heading north, both gives us a good access to the state of Pennsylvania, as to the state of New Jersey, which are the states where our descendants are!. Here, in the state of Delaware, where before its coastline was explored by Europeans in the 16th century, was inhabited by several groups of Native Americans, including the Lenape in the north and Nanticoke in the south. It was initially colonized by Dutch traders at Zwaanendael, near the present town of Lewes,around the year 1631, where we will pass from here a few days, when returning to the south, but continuing to speak of Delaware, on December de 1787, became the first state to ratify the Constitution of the United States, and has since promoted itself as “The First State”)!.

…mais uma vez passamos na Delaware Memorial Bridge, é uma ponte suspensa dupla, que atravessa o Rio Delaware e carrega a Interstate 95, entre Delaware e New Jersey, a ponte fornece uma conexão regional para viajantes de longa distância e, é dedicada a pessoas de New Jersey e Delaware que morreram na Guerra Mundial II, a Guerra da Coréia, a Guerra do Vietnam e a Guerra do Golfo Pérsico!. (once again we passed the Delaware Memorial Bridge, is a twin suspension bridge crossing the Delaware River, and carry the Interstate 95, between Delaware and New Jersey, the bridge provide a regional connection for long-distance travelers and, is dedicated to those from both New Jersey and Delaware who died in World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, and the Persian Gulf War)!.

…optámos por visitar primeiro New Jersey. Por aqui vivemos mais de trinta anos, foi aqui que cresceram os nossos filhos, que foram educados, onde nós trabalhámos, pois desde o século XIX, as fábricas nas cidades (conhecidas como “Big Six”), Camden, Paterson, Newark, Trenton, Jersey City e Elizabeth, ajudaram a impulsionar a revolução industrial!. Era aqui que no inverno, limpávamos a neve na frente da casa e no verão íamos à praia com os filhos e com os amigos, onde faziamos churrasco, mesmo na beira do mar, tal como Nova Jersey foi habitada por nativos americanos por mais de 2.800 anos, com tribos históricas como o “Lenape”, ao longo da costa!. Trabalhávamos por turnos, como tal havia somente livre, um fim de semana por mês que aproveitávamos para com a família visitar a cidade de Nova Iorque, pois a localização geográfica de Nova Jersey, é no centro da megalópole do Nordeste, entre Boston e Nova Iorque, ou simplesmente ir ver o aeroporto de Newark, para ver chegar as pessoas e, nós com muitas saudades de Portugal, talvez tantas como no início do século 17, os holandeses e os suecos tiveram, como quando fizeram os primeiros assentamentos Europeus neste estado de New Jersey. Foi por aqui, na área das cidades de Newark e Elizabeth, que lutámos pela sobrevivência, não tanto, nem nada que se pareça, mas devemos lembrar-nos que New Jersey foi o local de várias batalhas decisivas durante a Guerra Revolucionária Americana, pois nós, chegados da Europa, pouco sabíamos ou entendíamos sobre esta grande Nação, que são os USA!. E por aqui, ficaram os nossos filhos, procurando, viver, trabalhar, criar e educar os nossos netos!. Obrigado Nova Jersey, por tudo o que nos deste!. (we chose to visit New Jersey first. This is where we live for more than thirty years, it was here that our children grew up, who were educated, where we worked, since the 19th century, factories in cities (known as the “Big Six”), Camden, Paterson, Newark, Trenton, Jersey City and Elizabeth, helped to drive the Industrial revolution!. It was here that in the winter, we cleaned the snow in front of the house and in the summer we went to the beach with the children and with the friends, where we made barbecue, right on the edge of the sea, such as New Jersey was inhabited by Native Americans for more than 2,800 years, with historical tribes such as the “Lenape”, along the coast!. We worked in shifts, as such there was only free, one weekend a month that we used to visit with the family of the city of New York City, because New Jersey’s geographic location at the center of the Northeast megalopolis, between Boston and New York City, or just go see Newark airport, to see people arrive, and we are very homesick for Portugal, maybe as many as in the early 17th century, the Dutch and the Swedes made the first European settlements in the state!. It was here in the area of Newark and Elizabeth that we fought for survival, not so much, or anything that looks like it, but we must remember that New Jersey was the site of several decisive battles during the American Revolutionary War, because we arrived from Europe, we knew little or understood about this great nation, which is the USA !. And here, our children stayed, looking for,  living, working, raising and educating our grandchildren!.Thank you New Jersey, for everything you gave us)!

…visitámos a nossa filha Sandy, que vive no estado de  New Jersey, com seu marido Brian, com seu filho Brian Anthony, a sua filha Ava Monroe, esperando, brevemente aumentar a família, com outro ou outra, descendente!. (we visited our daughter Sandy, who lives in New Jersey, with her husband Brian, with his son Brian Anthony, his daughter Ava Monroe, hoping to briefly raise the family with another descendant)!.

…casou-se numa praia de um País do Sul da América, com o Brian, nós, tal como o nosso filho Tony, sua esposa Kathy e o nosso neto Cody, assistimos, felizes!. (married on a South American country beach with Brian, we, like our son Tony, his wife Kathy and our grandson Cody, we watched, happy)!.

…o lema da família é “Family is everthing”, que quer dizer mais ou menos, “A família é para sempre, é tudo na nossa vida, conservando-a, somos mais felizes”!. (the motto of the family is “Family is everthing”, which means more or less, “The family is forever, it is everything in our life, conserving it, we are happier”)!.

..têm a sua casa, criam os seus filhos com carinho, nos momentos livres, fazem as coisas normais, que qualquer casal faz e, todos os anos nos vistam, na Florida!. (They have their home, they raise their children with affection, in the free moments they do the normal things that any couple does, and every year they see us in Florida)!.

…como já explicámos, a família brevemente vai aumentar!. (as we have already explained, the family will soon increase)!.

…fazem um casal, muito agradável para ver, por tal, têm alguns bons amigos, com quem passam algum tempo, que têm livre!. (they make a couple, very nice to see, for such, have some good friends, with whom they spend some time, they have free)!.

…o nosso neto Brian Anthony, está a crescer, todas as vezes que o vemos tem uma qualquer coisa nova que já aprendeu e, vem mostrar-nos as suas habilidades!. Domina o seu pequeno computador e, nesse momento, quer estar sózinho!. (our grandson Brian Anthony is growing up, every time we see him he has something new that he has already learned and come and show us his skills!. Master your little computer and now you want to be alone)!

…a nossa neta, Ava Monroe, já fez um ano de idade, os pais, vestem-na com roupas alegres e, ainda a fazem mais bonita aos nossos olhos!. (our granddaughter, Ava Monroe, has already been a year old, her parents dress her in cheerful clothes, and still make her look more beautiful)!

…a nossa filha Sandy, orgulha-se da sua menina e, às vezes olha a sua filha e diz-nos “hó pai, a minha filha é mesmo linda”!. Claro que é!. (our daughter Sandy, she prides herself on her little girl and sometimes looks at her daughter and tells us “ho, father, my daughter is really beautiful” !. Course is!.

…o Brian, trabalha com algum risco da sua vida, para dar conforto à sua família!. É um pai muito amigo dos seus filhos, “é do género, que até lhes troca as fraldas”!. (Brian, work at some risk of your life, to give comfort to your family!. He is a father very friendly with his children, “he is the kind, who even changes his diapers!”.

…o Brian, tal como a Sandy, orgulha-se dos seus filhos, ama-os e educa-os com disciplina e amor!. (Brian, like Sandy, prides himself on his children, loves them and educates them with discipline and love)!

…recentemente, assistimos ao baptizado da nossa neta, Eva Monroe!. (recently, we attended the baptism of our granddaughter, Eva Monroe)!.

…nós, orgulhamo-nos da, por enquanto, única neta na família!. (we are proud of, for the time being, the only granddaughter in the family)!

…a avó, quando está presente, não deixa que ninguém toque na sua menina, brinca com ela, ensinando-lhe coisas diferentes!. (the grandmother, when she is present, do not let anyone touch her girl, play with her, teaching her different things)!.

…o mesmo com o Brian Anthony, que aprende coisas novas com a avó!. (the same with Brian Anthony, who learns new things with his grandmother)!.

…às vezes os três netos, juntam-se e, brincam, aprendendo coisas novas juntos!. (sometimes the three grandchildren, get together and play, learning new things together)!.

…foi difícil, pois são traquinos, mas conseguimos juntar os dois, junto dos avós, por alguns momentos!. (it was difficult, because they are trachy, but we managed to join them together, with the grandparents, for a few moments)!.

Welcome to Pennsylvania!

…já tínhamos passado algumas vezes pelo estado de Pennsylvania, mas começámos a vir aqui mais frequentemente, depois que o nosso filho Tony, por aqui fixou residência!. Entretanto casou com a simpática Kathy, que lhe deu dois lindos rapazes e, por aqui vivem nas montanhas, perto do Rio Delaware, e das Appalachian Montanhas, nesta Pennsylvania, que é um dos 13 estados fundadores originais dos Estados Unidos, onde parte da Pennsylvania, ao longo do Rio Delaware, juntamente com o actual estado de Delaware, anteriormente tinha sido organizado como a Colónia de Nova Suécia, entretanto foi o segundo estado a ratificar a Constituição dos Estados Unidos, em Dezembro de 1787!. (we had been through the state of Pennsylvania a few times, but we started coming here more often, after our son, Tony, settled here!. Meanwhile, married beautiful  Kathy, who gave her two handsome boys, and here they live in the mountains, near the Delaware River, and the Appalachian Mountains, in this Pennsylvania, which is a of the 13 original founding states of the United States, at where part of Pennsylvania, along the Delaware River, together with the present State of Delaware, had earlier been organized as the Colony of New Sweden, however it was the second state to ratify the United States Constitution, on December, 1787)!.

…o Tony e a Kathy, casaram, festejando nas montanhas, de onde suavemente desce o Rio Delaware! (Tony and Kathy, married, partying in the mountains, from where the Delaware river gently descends)!

…o Tony e a Kathy, com os seus filhos Cody e o Dawson, formam uma linda família, quando tempo o permite, juntos, fazem  caminhadas pela montanha, têm uma cultura de liberdade, adoram a natureza, respiram o ar puro da montanha e, no inverno brincam na neve!. (Tony and Kathy, with their children Cody and Dawson, form a beautiful family, when time allows, together they hike up the mountain, have a culture of freedom, love nature, breathe the clean air of mountain and in winter play in the snow)!.

…fazem um casal feliz, que adoram os seus filhos, a natureza e a paz da montanha!. (make a happy couple, who love their children, the nature and the peace of the mountain)!.

…o Tony, tem muito orgulho no seu nome de família, viaja à volta do mundo, para trazer sustento para conforto da sua família e, em casa, no pouco tempo que tem livre, dedica-o aos entes queridos!. (Tony, takes great pride in his family name, travels around the world, to provide sustenance for the comfort of his family, and at home in the short time he has free, dedicate it to loved ones)!.

…a Kathy, está a educar os seus filhos, Cody e o Dawson, com carinho e muito respeito, ensinando-lhes os princípios de família e, agora mais crescidos, enquanto frequentam a escola, está a começar o seu negócio, na área de manutenção e limpeza!. Boa sorte, Kathy!. (to Kathy, she is educating her children Cody and Dawson, with love and respect, teaching them family principles, and now growing up while they attend school, is starting their business in the area maintenance and cleaning!. Good luck, Kathy)!

…o Tony, no seu tempo livre, que não é muito, leva a Kathy e os seus filhos, Cody e Dawson, a fazer pequenas caminhadas na montanha, a praticar alguns desportos, ou a verem parques educativos!. (Tony, in his spare time, which is not much, leads Kathy and her children, Cody and Dawson, to do little mountain walks, to practice some sports, or to see educational parks)!

…a Kate, é uma “mãe galinha”, ou seja, observa, educa, corrige, brinca, veste, proteje e, faz a comida preferida que os seus filhos gostam!. (Kate is a “chicken mother”, that is, observe, educate, correct, play, dress, protect and make the favorite food your children like)!

…o Cody e o Dawson, andam sempre juntos, brincam, zangam-se, mas só por segundos, logo se abraçam, continuando na sua brincadeira!. (Cody and Dawson, they always go together, they play, they get angry, but only for seconds, soon they embrace, continuing in their joke)!.

…o Cody, já é um “homenzinho”, frequenta a escola, gosta de números e desenhar, é organizado e, por vezes não deixa que o irmão Dawson, toque nos seus brinquedos ou livros da escola!. (Cody is already a “little man”, goes to school, likes numbers and draws, is organized and sometimes does not let Brother Dawson touch his toys or school books)!.

…o Dawson, já frequenta a pre-escola, gosta de desporto, segue e copia o irmão Cody, em tudo o que ele faz!. (Dawson, already attends preschool, enjoys sports, follow and copy Brother Cody, in everything he does)!.

…nós, bem tentamos brincar com eles, mas é difícil, pois têm força e juventude, que a nós já nos vai faltando!. (we, well try to play with them, but it is difficult, because they have strength and youth, that we are already missing)!.

…gostam da avó, que lhes dá muitos brinquedos e, na água, fazem dela um barco!. (they like their grandmother, who gives them lots of toys and, in the water, makes her a boat)!.
