…neve na Florida! (snow in Florida)!.

…em crianças, lá na vertente oeste da montanha do Caramulo, naquele Portugal “à beira mar plantado”, havia invernos, com geada fria ou mesmo alguma neve, a mãe Ilda, dizia:

– está frio, agasalha-te, coloca os tamancos nos pés!.

…aqui, na parte central/norte do estado da Florida, onde vivemos agora, o clima é sub-tropical húmido, lá mais para sul, é que é tropical verdadeiro!. Existem chuvas pesadas, mas breves, na estação chuvosa, que pode ir de Maio a Outubro, quando as nuvens de massa de ar, se acumulam no calor do dia e, lá para o final do verão, quase no início do outono, aparecem os tais ciclones tropicais, que às vezes são terrestres, que contribuem com chuvas e ventos com alguma intensidade!. …lá para o final de Outubro, pelo menos no norte do estado, começa a estação seca, que pode durar até Abril na maior parte dos anos e, as frentes das tempestades de latitude média, ocasionalmente passam por aqui, trazendo chuvas de inverno, claras e breves, todavia, embora a maioria das áreas do estado da Florida não experimente qualquer tipo de precipitação congelada, o norte da Florida, portanto onde vivemos, pode ver neve fugaz ou granizo, algumas vezes por década!. …já vão percebendo, porque é que nesta altura do ano, andamos por aqui com frio, os noticiários na televisão, deliciam-se, anunciando “neve no estado da Florida” e, alguns de vocês, lá por outras latitudes, onde de facto existe frio, muito frio e neve verdadeira, que dificulta a vida a todos, até podem dizer:

– hó, neve na Florida, que bom, queriam só calor, olha para estes “floridians”, não sabem lidar com a neve, aguentem-se!.

…bem, vamos continuar mais um pouco, não, não são desculpas, são factos, a corrente do Golfo, atravessando o Estreito da Florida e depois ao norte da Costa Leste, mantém as temperaturas moderadas algumas milhas para o interior do estado, quase durante todo o ano com poucos extremos de temperatura, todavia a corrente do oceano tropical também fornece temperaturas quentes da superfície do mar, oferecendo às praias da Florida, as águas mais quentes do oceano, aqui nos USA!. Mas também existem, em áreas do interior centro e norte, frentes frias fortes ocasionais, que normalmente se movem para sul, vindas do norte, com temperaturas congeladas ou próximas do frio, principalmente em algumas noites!. (well, let’s continue for a little bit, no, no excuses, they are facts, the Gulf Stream, across the Florida Straits and then to the north of the East Coast, maintains moderate temperatures a few miles into the state, almost all year round with few extremes of temperature, yet the tropical ocean current also provides warm sea surface temperatures, giving Florida beaches the warmest ocean water here in the USA !. …algumas as dunas de areia, desapareceram!. (some of the sand dunes have disappeared)!.

…agora já sabem porque vestimos uma roupa de inverno, a mesma que usávamos, quando vivíamos lá no norte, no estado de Nova Jersey e, fomos fazer uma pequena viajem pelas áreas que circundam a nossa cidade aqui na Florida!. (now you know why we wore a winter outfit, the same one we wore when we lived up north in the state of New Jersey, and went for a little tour of the areas that surround our town here in Florida)!.

…algumas rampas e passadeiras destruídas, com a fúria das ondas!. (some ramps and walkways destroyed, with the fury of the waves)!.

…mas tudo isto, é temporário, vai voltar a temperatura quente, o céu vai ser azul e sol vai voltar a brilhar!. (but all this, is temporary, will return to warm temperature, the sky will be blue and the sun will come back to shine)!.
