…vida de um emigrante!. (life of an immigrant)!.

….Portugal, o país que divide o espaço da Península Ibérica com a Espanha, lá na Europa, foi continuamente povoado desde os tempos pré-históricos!. Foi ocupado por Celtas, Galaicos ou Lusitanos, esteve integrado na República Romana, foi colonizado por povos Germânicos, como Suevos ou Visigodos, onde alguns séculos depois, aquelas terras foram conquistadas pelos mouros!. Mais tarde, houve a reconquista Cristã, onde foi formado o Condado Portucalense, tornando-se parte do Reino de León, que depois de algumas batalhas se foram estabelecendo as fronteiras, formando primeiro o Reino de Portugal, e mais tarde, tornando-se no país Portugal, que dizem ser, o mais antigo Estado-Nação da Europa!. …nós, os tais emigrantes dos anos sessenta e setenta do século passado, tivémos uma vida de aventura, de coragem, de sobrevivência e de uma força interior, um pouco acima da média, um pouco acima do normal!. A palavra saudade, começava a ter um significado muito importante!. Nessa altura tinha que ser muito forte, moral e fisicamente!. …os primeiros anos eram terríveis!. O idioma, os costumes, o clima e alguma discriminação, eram quase insuportáveis!. Demorava alguns anos até tornar-se um natural habitante do país que escolhia para emigrar!. Nesse período de tempo, se não tinha algum suporte humano, motivação interior e alguma sorte nos seus contactos, o emigrante não resistia, e a sua maior alegria era arranjar dinheiro para comprar um bilhete de passagem, e regressar definitivamente ao seu país!. …damos o exemplo do “Zé Murtosa”, pois era assim que carinhosamente o chamávamos, era oriundo de uma aldeia ribeirinha, que pertencia à vila da Murtosa, em Portugal, que na procura de uma melhor vida, se veio juntar a uns parentes que aqui viviam nos Estados Unidos! Deixou a sua bateira, onde andava na pesca das enguias, que vendia, pois era o seu meio de sobrevivência, para todos os dias colocar alguma comida na mesa de sua casa!. Era um homem trabalhador, sabia controlar as suas economias, tinha alguma ambição, emigrou sozinho, a sua dedicada esposa veio juntar-se a ele mais tarde!. Viviam na mesma cidade que nós, junto ao Rio Passaic, no estado de Nova Jersey, trabalhando, economizando, depressa compraram uma casa de quatro famílias, já velha, precisando de alguma reparação, repararam-na, alugaram os quatro apartamentos, construiram uns aposentos na cave, onde viveram e onde criaram e deram educação os seus dois filhos!. …quando vinham de férias a Portugal, pouco usavam a vivenda, pois estava tudo tão arrumadinho e limpo, que entendiam que não deviam sujar, nem usar!. Ocupavam-se em pintar, ou reparar qualquer parte do muro que circundava a vivenda, que estivesse menos bonito com a chuva e o vento que durante a sua ausência tivesse sofrido algumas mazelas, ou em limparem e plantar novas flores no jardim e, lá iam vivendo nos anexos como podiam, usando a vivenda o menos possível!.

…quando regressavam de férias, e lhe perguntava-mos como correram, diziam:

– Não tivemos tempo para nada, há lá tanto trabalho para fazer, a casa está tão linda, que até temos pena de a sujar, só queria que vocês vissem, como temos lá, uma casa tão linda, e o jardim, é mesmo um sonho!.

Levam um “contentor” dos grandes, com muitas coisas que achavam que seriam úteis, como por exemplo a mobília do quarto e da cozinha, que lhe tinham custado uma fortuna há trinta anos, uns sofás, muito bons, do melhor, que estiveram sempre cobertos com um plástico, para não se sujar, uma mesa e umas cadeiras, que tinham trazido de uma casa que ajudou a remodelar, de uns senhores muito ricos, numa cidade das montanhas, alguns garrafões de vinho vazios, que guardaram por toda a vida, e entendiam que depois de beber o vinho não se devia pôr fora o garrafão vazio, pois também os tinham pago!. …a vivenda nova, último modelo, está completa, mobília e tudo, já não há lugar para mais nada!. Então, decidem pôr todo o recheio do “contentor” nos anexos. Arranjar as paredes, pôr azulejos, luz eléctrica, cimento no chão e na frente, tudo muito arranjadinho, e vão viver para lá!. A vivenda nova, último modelo, era boa demais para lá viver!. Fica lá tudo, arrumadinho, limpinho e fechado, só para mostrar aos amigos, ou alguma visita, que tenha vindo dos Estados Unidos, pois tinham orgulho em mostrar que tinham uma casa linda em Portugal!.

Vivem nos anexos!.

…com o tempo, vão fazendo mais arranjos, já têm um bom quarto de banho, com chuveiro, frigorífico dos bons, com duas portas, a televisão que levaram não trabalha, compraram outra nova e, um móvel, que também servia de bar, para pôr a televisão por cima, puseram ladrilhos dos grandes no chão da cozinha, ladrilhos dos pequenos nos anexos, excepto no quarto, onde mandaram pôr uma carpete, daquelas fofinhas, como se via na televisão!. Na frente dos anexos, uma cobertura ondulada, em plástico, azul, que dava um certo conforto, e mais ao lado um limoeiro onde penduraram uma gaiola com um melro, onde até vinham comer outros pássaros, que assobiava que era um assombro, já os conhecia, quando lhe davam algumas minhocas, pois nos seus tempos livres, andavam às minhocas para o melro, nas terras vizinhas!. …tudo isto era bom, mas andavam um pouco tristes, não era bem tristeza, era qualquer coisa, que os fazia sentir menos felizes!.

– Que raio, sempre que regresso de apanhar minhocas, tenho que sacudir e limpar os pés, antes de entrar nos anexos, pois está tudo tão limpinho e arrumadinho!.

…dizia o “Zé Murtosa”, inconformado com esta nova situação!. Às vezes tinham mesmo que se descalçarem, quando regressavam de apanhar minhocas para o melro. Dentro de casa havia sempre aquela sensação que não deviam ir para o quarto sem primeiro lavarem e limparem os pés, pois a carpete era nova, podiam ter mandado pôr um plástico por cima, mas custava mais dinheiro e, o homem que instalou a carpete disse que não se usava!.

…depois de muito pensarem, chegaram à conclusão de que os anexos estavam bons demais para lá viverem!. Vão viver a maior parte do tempo na bateira velha, que tinham antes de emigrar, onde puseram uns paus a segurar a antiga vela, onde se recolhem, nos dias em que há chuva, e ao lado, nos dias em que não chove, fazem uma fogueira com caruma dos pinheiros e assam umas sardinhas ou uns carapaus, que comem com um naco de pão, bebendo uns goles de vinho pela mesma garrafa e, limpando de seguida a boca nas costas da mão, tal qual como faziam antes de emigrarem, sendo totalmente felizes neste humilde ambiente!.
