…andámos por Las Vegas! (we walked by Las Vegas)!

…tínhamos dormido a pouca milhas da cidade de Las Vegas. Pela manhã, fomos para lá, estacionámos o nosso carro utilitário no parque de um famoso Casino, entrámos, passando pelas imensas salas de jogo, era uma azáfama, o som característico das máquinas de moedas era infernal, aqui e ali, algumas pessoas estavam excitadas na frente das já referidas máquinas, falavam alto, numa linguagem, um pouco obscena, talvez fossem palavras de incitamento, tais com:

– anda lá bébé, mostra-me a tua generosidade, dá-me o “BIG”!.

…o “BIG”, queriam talvez dizer, um prémio grande!.

…ela, a senhora já idosa, numa cadeira de rodas, com um tanque de oxigénio que a ajudava a respirar, jogava!. A máquina na sua frente, atingiu o tal “BIG”, houviu-se a música característica, o tal som “dlim, dlom, dlim, dlom”, as luzes começaram a acender e apagar, o pessoal do casino aproximou-se, começando a preencher a papelada para ela assinar, pois ela tinha ganho o “BIG”, o tal prémio grande!. Ela, a senhora já idosa, moveu silenciosamente a sua cadeira de rodas, onde estava um tanque com oxigénio que a ajudava a respirar, para outra máquina, começando de novo a colocar moedas, não se importando se ganhou muito ou pouco, o importante era continuar a jogar!. Até quando?. Talvez até chegar ao momento em que o oxigénio do tanque que a ajudava a respirar acabasse e, possívelmente já não teria dinheiro para o encher de novo!. …saímos do Casino, entrando na Las Vegas Boulevard, a tal a que chamam “Strip”, onde as pessoas caminham em qualquer sentido, é uma avenida que não dorme, jovens, adultos e idosos de ambos os sexos caminham, entram e saiem dos diversos casinos!.

…um casal, ainda jovem aproxima-se, pergunta-nos:

– querem comprar drogas?. Querem ser felizes por algumas horas?.

…nós, na nossa santa inocência, respondemos:

– mas isso não é ilegal?.

…sorridentes, responderam-nos:

– o que é que você quer dizer?. Isto é Las Vegas!. Tudo aqui é legal!.

Mas todos procuram a cidade de Las Vegas, pois a ideia dos Casinos, dos grandes espectáculos, dos restaurantes, dos encontros de ocasião, enfim, divertem-se aqui, onde muitos chamam a “Cidade da Perdição”!. …continuando com a nossa narrativa, andámos de casino em casino, vendo festas, as pessoas alegres, talvez gastando o que não têm, em alguns casinos vimos pessoas famosas cantando, num desses locais, aproximámo-nos do balcão do bar, pedimos um copo com bebida, o empregado muito sorridente, colocou-nos na frente uma garrafa, cheia da referida bebida, um copo e, que podíamos beber o que quiséssemos, pois era de graça, e muito sorridente disse que nos queria ver felizes!. Como nós o compreendíamos!. …é assim Las Vegas, tudo, ou quase tudo é livre, casamentos, divórcios, encontros amorosos, traições, restaurantes com especialidades de todo o mundo, vive-se vinte e quatro horas ao dia, os melhores artistas do momento procuram protagonismo, filmam-se películas na Las Vegas Boulevard, pessoas com grandes possibilidades financeiras chegam de helicóptero ou em aviões privados, chegam aos casinos com grandes mordomias e de limousine, mas também se podem ver na rua alguns “descamisados”, trajando roupa suja e, fora da medida do seu corpo, alguns empurrando um carrinho, talvez “desviado” de algum supermercado, cheio de latas vazias, de sacas de plástico, de nada que possa ter valor a não ser para eles, pois um simples naco de pão, ou o resto de uma garrafa de água, tudo apanhado no caixote do lixo, equivale a uma majestosa refeição de “steak & lobster”, com lagosta fresca, vinda do estado do Alaska, e o steak vindo do estado do Wyoming ou de Montana, de carne curada de búfalo, tudo regado com champanhe da Califórnia, servida por vários empregados, com todas as mordomias, num dos luxuosos restaurantes, lá no vigésimo ou trigésimo andar, com paisagem para o deserto do Nevada, equivalente a milhares de dólares e, esses “descamisados” por vezes acariciando um animal, que pode ser um cão ou um gato, que também deve passar fome, mas tem algum carinho e não os abandona, calçando um sapato diferente do outro, onde transportam toda a sua fortuna!.
