…o nosso filho Tony, a sua dedicada esposa Kathy, os nossos netos Cody e o Dawson, também vieram do norte, lá das montanhas de Pennsylvania, no entanto…, também não são “snowbirds”…, são a família e…, trazem-nos à memória imagens do passado a quem devemos muitas e boas recordações!. Vêm ver-nos e…, sobretudo divertir-se na praia, apanhar sol no corpo, caminhar na areia, saltar sobre as ondas e dançar com o mar!.

…eles riam-se alegres…, quando lhes mostrámos uma concha especial, dizendo-lhes para ouvirem o mar, a tartaruga gigante pré-histórica, os grunhidos do bébé golfinho que regressava à superfície com sua mãe golfinha vindo do fundo do mar ou a tempestade tropical que se aproximava trazendo ondas gigantes, barcos de “corsários” abandonados, contando-lhes histórias de “piratas” do mar das Caraíbas!.

…principalmente o nosso neto Dawson, num profundo interesse pela vida oceânica queria ir à pesca!. Lá fomos e…, desde tubarões, baleias ou pinguins, até talvez peixes arco-íris, não pescámos nenhum peixe, no entanto ficou na mesma feliz, dizendo que os peixes devem ficar no seu habitat…, porque são parte da natureza!.

…e, no cenário de final de tarde, sendo horas de regresso, a areia ia chorar na praia, o oceano iria acenar num profundo e saudoso adeus e aquela gaivota viria voar sobre nós perguntando se amanhã íamos regressar, porque o “céu iria tocar o mar e as ondas iriam dançar na praia”!.

…tudo diferente do nosso tempo, em que os meninos afinal eram homens com calos nas mãos, pés descalços e um pedaço de broa no bolso das calças remendadas e, as meninas eram mulheres de tranças feitas ao domingo de manhã antes da missa, de saias de cotim, braços cansados de dar colo aos irmãos mais novos, e de rodilha na cabeça para aguentar o peso dos alguidares de roupa para lavar no rio ou dos molhos de erva para alimentar o gado!.

E, não podíamos ter melhor prenda, porque sobretudo as crianças, fazem-nos unir todos os pedacinhos da memória, ou seja, juntar os destroços na construção de um todo, para poder descrever tudo o que vimos e sentimos em alguns momentos, sem ser visitados por uma tremenda nostralgia, que não sabemos se nos dá para chorar ou rir…, de contentamento!.

…hoje…, ontem e há três dias sentimo-nos um pouco desiludidos, frustados e inconsequentemente menos dignos de alguns gestos físicos!. Porquê?. Porque nesta lenta recuperação vamos verificando que que ela é feita de avanços e recuos!. Uns dias são “cinco estrelas” e…, outros vemo-nos a gritar, pedindo para que nos aliviem as dores, sobretudo na “alma”, (se é que ela existe)!.

…today…, yesterday and three days ago we feel a little disappointed, frustrated and consequently less worthy of some physical gestures!. Why?. Because in this slow recovery we are verifying that it is made of advances and retreats!. Some days are “five stars” and…, others we find ourselves screaming, asking them to relieve our pain, especially in the “soul”, (if it exists)!.

…e não são só dores físicas, são dores que refletem uma passagem para o irracional!. Porquê?. Sobretudo quando se vê e ouve o noticiário do “five o’clock news”, e se assiste a um desenrolar de notícias terríveis com guerra e outros conflitos em muitas partes do mundo, crianças com fome e sem família, património natural destruído, animais “enjaulados” e maltratados e…, o “ser humano”, com um semblante superior, ignorando, cruel e…, dando a entender que é o “rei” deste universo!. Universo este que afinal, não pertence a ninguém…, porque é de todos nós!.

…e, porque nesta faze da nossa vida não nos é recomendado, levantar, empurrar ou puxar mais de 10 libras, tal como nenhum trabalho pesado no quintal como cortar, plantar, juntar folhas, etc., ou outro qualquer trabalho doméstico pesado, como por exemplo tentar abrir a tampa de uma jarra apertada, levantar sacolas, bolsas ou malas ou simplesmente empurrar ou puxar portas pesadas, praticar nenhum desporto extenuante, como golfe natação, ténis, caça ou pesca ou até…, levantar os meus netos ao colo!.

…chegámos a uma fase da nossa vida, que aquilo a que nos dedicámos a vida inteira estava-nos a fazer menos bem!. Porquê?. Porque o ritmo da vida era tão rápido que quase deixámos de ter vida!. Em outras palavras, era uma fase em que sem o admitir, estávamos doentes!. Possivelmente, já estávamos incapazes há muito tempo, tudo já estava para lá do nosso limite há muito tempo, era quase como estar rodeados de gente, nós a gritar com falta de ar fresco, mas ninguém nos ouvia!.

…we reached a stage in our life, where what we had dedicated our whole lives to was doing us less good!. Why?. Because the rhythm of life was so fast that we almost stopped having life!. In other words, it was a phase in which without admitting it, we were sick!. Possibly, we had been unable for a long time, everything had been beyond our limit for a long time, it was almost like being surrounded by people, we were screaming for lack of fresh air, but no one heard us!.

…aliás…, em alguns momentos da nossa recuperação queremos solidão e, essa solidão não é forçosamente negativa, pelo contrário, até parece um previlégio, porque sempre detestámos as coisas mundanas, ou seja, estar com as pessoas apenas para gastar as horas, sempre nos foi insuportável!.

…assim, depois de rigorosos exames, tivémos que ser operados ao coração e, o cirurgião que nos operou explicou que é comum tanto antes como depois, da cirurgia, ter uma sensação de desânimo e algumas pessoas se sentem deprimidas e até choram, outros até podem ser um pouco mal-humorados!. Isto é uma parte normal da recuperação!. No nosso caso, com a ajuda da família, em especial a nossa dedicada esposa Isaura, estamos a sentir-nos de volta e cremos mesmo que dentro de umas semanas voltaremos a ser nós próprios!.

…so, after rigorous examinations, we had to undergo heart surgery, and the surgeon who operated on us explained that it is common, both before and after surgery, to have a feeling of despondency and some people feel depressed and even cry, others even can be a bit moody!. This is a normal part of recovery!. In our case, with the help of the family, especially our dedicated wife Isaura, we are feeling back and we really believe that in a few weeks we will be ourselves again!.

…e…, com algum esforço já passámos no teste de subir e descer os 50 degraus que nos levaram ao terraço do Castelo de San Marcos, na vizinha cidade de Santo Agostinho, apreciando a maravilhosa vista da Ponte e da Baía de Matanzas!.

…nesta momento somos sobreviventes da chamada doença arterial coronariana, que é um fenómeno que reduz o fluxo sanguíneo que passa pelas artérias que levam o sangue ao coração, ou seja, as artérias estão a bloquear-se e esse baixo bloqueio faz com que não receba suficiente oxigênio, e claro, a falta de oxigênio no músculo cardíaco causa danos ao músculo e podem diminuir a capacidade do coração de bombear sangue!. 

…at the moment we are survivors of the so-called coronary artery disease, which is a phenomenon that reduces the blood flow through the arteries that carry blood to the heart, that is, the arteries are blocking and this low blockage means that you do not receive enough oxygen, and of course, the lack of oxygen in the heart muscle causes damage to the muscle and can decrease the heart’s ability to pump blood!.

…e quando isto acontece…, é muito possível que seja a causa de um futuro ataque cardíaco!. Nós, felizmente, lentamente, mesmo muito lentamente vamos recuperando, porque segundo as instruções para depois da operação ao coração a que fomos submetidos, teremos que aguardar cerca de três mêses para que tudo volte ao normal!.

Se conseguir-mos fazer isto, temos fortes possibilidades de uma boa recuperação e viver uma vida mais longa!.

…a nossa já um pouco longa idade, também pode desempenhar alguma dificuldade, pois a recuperação pode demorar mais em adultos e mais velhos, no entanto, para uma recuperação completa, é necessário em qualquer fase da nossa recuperação, usar sempre o bom senso, evitando exageros, que podem levar cerca de três a seis meses!.

…nós quando andamos por aí, sempre acompanhados pela nossa dedicada esposa Isaura, procuramos exercitarmo-nos ao ar livre, pelo menos quando não está chovendo, muito frio ou muito calor, parando sempre quando sentimos alguma falta de ar, tontura ou qualquer dor no peito, que são frequentes ao respirar, tossir, espirrar ou rir, que são dores normais e esperadas devido ao facto de que o osso do tórax ser o mais lento para cicatrizar!.

…when we walk around, always accompanied by our dedicated wife Isaura, we try to exercise outdoors, at least when it’s not raining, too cold or too hot, always stopping when we feel some shortness of breath, dizziness or any pain in the chest, which are frequent when breathing, coughing, sneezing or laughing, which are normal and expected pains due to the fact that the chest bone is the slowest to heal!.

…às vezes é torturante durante algum tempo, pois temos algumas dores breves e agudas em ambos os lados do peito, ombros e a parte superior das costas, mas são sintomas normais, porque a incisão no peito e na área onde os cirurgiãos operaram ainda estão doloridas ou inchadas!.

…sometimes it is excruciating for a while, as we have some brief, sharp pains on both sides of the chest, shoulders and upper back, but these are normal symptoms, as the incision in the chest and the area where the surgeons operated are still there. painful or swollen!.

…neste momento o que nos preocupa um pouco é a normal remoção de uma veia da perna que depois foi usada no coração, mas dizem-nos que não há necessidade de preocupação, pois o sistema venoso restante compensará a veia que foi removida!. Oxalá que sim!.

Porque nesta recuperação não tencionamos estragar o presente e…, na verdade…, ninguém é responsável pela nossa felicidade…, a não ser nós próprios e também…, às vezes é melhor não saber as respostas para os nossos problemas, porque elas vão vir quando menos as esperamos!.

…já saímos à rua, conduzindo a nossa viatura por pequenas distâncias, tal como na companhia da nossa dedicada esposa Isaura, regressámos às nossas caminhadas também por pequenas distâncias!.

..we have already gone out into the street, driving our car for short distances, just like in the company of our devoted wife Isaura, we have returned to our walks also for short distances!.

…felizmente tudo vai sendo “cinco estrelas”!.

…devagar devagarinho vamos andando por aí!. A nossa dedicada esposa Isaura, a nosso pedido levou-nos a ver um dos lugares nossos preferidos que são os pântanos ao redor da área onde presentemente vivemos!. Porquê?. Porque um pântano pode ser um refúgio ou um pesadelo!.

…slowly slowly let’s walk around!. Our dedicated wife Isaura, at our request, took us to see one of our favorite places which are the swamps around the area where we currently live!. Why?. Because a swamp can be a refuge or a nightmare!.

…é lá que podem acontecer coisas misteriosas porque muitas vezes são lugares úmidos e sombrios de beleza selvagem onde poucos se atrevem a penetrar, tal como os sonhos estranhos que vamos tendo na nossa já um pouco longa recuperação, onde às vezes nos aparecem jacarés, ursos negros, gatos selvagens e quem sabe mais o quê, tal como um fantasma obcecado por aquela orquídea fantasma!.

…it is there that mysterious things can happen because they are often humid and dark places of wild beauty where few dare to penetrate, such as the strange dreams that we have in our already somewhat long recovery, where alligators, bears sometimes appear blacks, wild cats and who knows what else, such as a ghost obsessed with that ghost orchid!.

…claro…, sabemos perfeitamente que são os efeitos das dores normais e da medicina que diáriamente tomamos para nos atenuar o temporário sofrimento de recuperação pela devastação da melindrosa operação ao coração a que fomos sujeitos!.

…of course…, we know perfectly well that they are the effects of normal pain and the medicine that we take daily to alleviate the temporary suffering of recovery from the devastation of the touchy heart operation to which we were subjected!.

…mas…, os pântanos são onde a água encontra a terra, tornando-os assim nossos aliados na luta pela sobrevivência!.

…lentamente, vamos sentindo melhoras todos os dias!. Esta semana, além das visitas periódicas de pessoal de enfermagem, a nossa dedicada esposa Isaura, levou-nos a três diferentes doutores e unidades hospitalares para fazer exames, com respostas de melhoras constantes e que tudo se vai resolvendo numa recuperação normal!.

…slowly, we feel improvements every day!. This week, in addition to the periodic visits by the nursing staff, our dedicated wife Isaura, took us to three different doctors and hospital units to undergo tests, with responses of constant improvement and that everything is being resolved in a normal recovery!.

…assim…, existem esperanças de que em breve iremos andar por aí de novo!.
