”Terceira Expedição ao Antigo Oeste”!. (12) ”Third Expedition to the Old West”!. (12)

…no último resumo desta nossa odisseia, mencionámos que…, “aceitamos todas estas contrariedades, porque fazem parte da nossa aventura”!. É a verdade!. Porquê?. Porque quem vive na estrada, percorrendo milhares de milhas contínuas, em parte vive da sorte!. E nós, consideramo-nos uns privilegiados com alguma sorte!. Como tal, aceitamos qualquer contrariedade, porque ela faz parte da nossa aventura e felizmente…,“aceitar todas estas contrariedades”, ajuda-nos a ainda andar por cá!.

…in the last summary of our Odyssey, we mentioned that…, “we accept all these setbacks, because they are part of our adventure”!. It’s the truth!. Why?. Because those who live on the road, traveling thousands of continuous miles, partly lives on luck!. And we consider ourselves privileged with some luck!. As such, we accept any contrary, because it is part of our adventure and fortunately…, “Accepting all these setbacks”, helps us still walk here!.

…hoje foi um dia agradável!. Saímos da cidade de Beaumont, Texas, em direcção ao leste na estrada “Interstate 10”, (que vem lá da California e nos há-de levar de novo à Florida)!. Paramos para visitar mais uma vez a cidade de Nova Orleães, no estado de Louisiana, onde nos acomodámos num excelente parque de RV, dentro da cidade e com acesso a quase todas as facilidades!.

…today was a pleasant day!. We left the city of Beaumont, Texas, towards the east on the “Interstate 10” road (which comes from California and will take us again to Florida)!. We stopped to visit the city of New Orleans, in the state of Louisiana, where we accommodated in an excellent RV park, inside the city and with access to almost all facilities!.

…fizemos um “tour” pela cidade, vimos barcos na água, no entanto disseram-nos que a cidade está localizada abaixo do nível do mar e, por causa disso, a cidade é cercada por diques, ou seja represas ou açudes, que são uma obra de engenharia hidráulica com a finalidade de manter determinadas áreas secas, através do apresamento de águas correntes!.

…we took a ”tour” of the city, we saw boats in the water, however they told us that the city is located below sea level and, because of this, the city is surrounded by dikes, ie dams or dams, which are a hydraulic engineering work to maintain certain dry areas, through the hurry of current water!.

 …apreciámos as casas históricas na também parte histórica da cidade, tal como o seu famoso cemitério, que às vezes é vedeta de filmes de Hollywood, procurando talvez o…, fantasma do Pirata Jean Lafitte, que nos dias de hoje, ainda ninguém sabe se foi um pirata ou um herói nacional, onde nasceu ou onde morreu, pois tudo isso permanece um mistério, no entanto continua sendo um dos nomes mais reconhecidos, quando se fala sobre figuras na história de Nova Orleães, e claro, da Louisiana!. 

…we appreciated the historic houses in the historical part of the city, just like its famous cemetery, which is sometimes a storm of Hollywood movies, perhaps looking for the…, Pirate Jean Lafitte’s ghost, which these days, nobody has been a pirate or a national hero, where it was born or died, because all this remains one of the most recognized names when it comes to the most recognized names Figures in the history of New Orleans, and of course, from Louisiana!.

…e nós, viajantes do mundo, tal como quase todos aqueles que visitam Nova Orleães, é no “Bairro Francês”, que é designado por “French Quarter”, onde a culinária “Créole”, o Rio Mississippi, ou outras tantas atracções turísticas, e claro, também o Pirata Jean Lafitte, que é uma figura de um tempo romântico e brutal que simplesmente faz parte do maravilhoso folclore do sul da Louisiana!.

… and we travelers of the world, like almost all those who visit New Orleans, is in the “French neighborhood”, which is called “French Quarter”, where the “Créle” cuisine, the Mississippi River, or many other tourist attractions, and of course, also the Pirate Jean Lafitte, who is a figure of a romantic and brutal time that is simply part of the wonderful Folklore of the South of the South Louisiana!.

…no ano de 2005, o maldito Furacão Katrina, passou por aqui,  devastando a Costa do Golfo, particularmente Nova Orleans, Louisiana e partes do Mississippi!. A cidade e o seu povo sofreram, pois estiveram debaixo d’água por dias a semanas, com 80% da cidade inundada, no entanto sobreviveu e os seus negócios cresceram, pelo menos é o que nos pareceu!.

…in 2005, the damn Hurricane Katrina, passed by, devastating the Gulf Coast, particularly New Orleans, Louisiana and parts of Mississippi!. The city and its people suffered, as they were underwater for days to weeks, with 80% of the flooded city, however survived and its business grew, at least that’s what it seemed to us!.

…pois no nosso roteiro, andámos pela área do “Bairro Francês”, que como acima já explicámos, é designado por “French Quarter”, e o custo de qualquer coisa,… custa mais do dobro do que em qualquer outro lugar, e claro, não querendo parafrasear e voltando ao Pirata Jean Lafitte, onde também na sua época, o seu negócio cresceu, com os seus corsários organizando embarques e venda de mercadorias contrabandeadas, obtendo um lucro fabuloso para aquela época!.

…e também como acima já explicámos,“aceitamos todas estas contrariedades, porque fazem parte da nossa aventura”!. E até compreendemos toda esta exorbitância nos preços das coisas, porque nos encontramos numa zona caracterizada pela sua arquitectura histórica de inspiração francesa e espanhola, marcada pela exuberância das suas varandas em ferro forjado, pela intensidade da sua vida nocturna, existência de numerosos estabelecimentos de diversão, restaurantes, com uma culinária assente na cultura “Créole”, que se refere aos imigrantes brancos e negros que vieram para a Louisiana, das colónias francesas nas Antilhas, a Martinica e o Haiti, que chegaram no século XVIII!.

…and also as we have explained above, “we accept all these setbacks, because they are part of our adventure”!. And we even understand all this exorbitance in the prices of things, because we find ourselves in an area characterized by its historical architecture of French and Spanish inspiration, marked by the exuberance of its forged iron balconies, the intensity of their night life, existence of numerous fun establishments, restaurants, with a “Créle” culture, which refers to white and black immigrants that came to the black Louisiana, from the French colonies in the Antilles, Martinica and Haiti, who arrived in the eighteenth century!.

…passámos um bom tempo, caminhamos, entrando aqui e ali, em alguns lugares de diversão, ouvindo “jazz”, vendo desfiles, pessoas alegres e com um riso tranquilizante e alguns diziam-nos, que Nova Orleães, está assombrada e que o fantasma do famoso pirata que talvez fosse francês, Jean Lafitte, continua passear-se pelas ruas estreitas do “French Quarter”!. 

…we spent a long time, walked, entering here and there, in some places of fun, listening to “jazz”, seeing parades, happy people and with a reassuring laugh and some told us, that New Orleans, is haunted and that the ghost of the famous pirate who may be French, Jean Lafitte, continues to walk the stretch streets of “French Quarter”. 

…se isto é verdade não sabemos!. Talvez tivesse passado por nós despercebido, com um copo de bebida numa mão, a máquina fotográfica na outra, lembrando que esta cidade, fundada por volta do ano de 1718, por um tal Jean Baptiste le Moyne, que foi o governador da Colónia Francesa de Louisiana, em homenagem a Filipe, Duque de Orleães, que na altura era o chefe de estado da França!.

…if this is true we don’t know!. Perhaps he had gone unnoticed, with a glass of drink in one hand, the camera in the other, remembering that this city, founded around 1718, by such a Jean Baptiste Le Moyne, who was the governor of the French colony of Louisiana, in honor of Philip, Duke of Orleães, who at the time was the head of state of France!.

…já a noite ia avançada quando regressámos muito felizes, ao nosso parque de RV!.

…estamos no ano de 2025!. (…it is the year 2025)!

…estamos no ano de 2025 e…, se vocês estão sentindo o impacto da inflação dos últimos anos, podem crer que não estão sozinhos!. Principalmente os idosos, tal como nós, também temos sentido e muito esse impacto!.

…it is the year 2025 and…, if you are feeling the impact of inflation in recent years, you can believe that you are not alone!. Especially the elderly, just like us, have also felt this impact a lot!. 

…presentemente, não importa em que parte do mundo se vive, a causa que esta mega-inflação tem nas nossas vidas cremos que se iniciou nas interrupções da cadeia de suprimentos causadas pela pandemia, que tornaram mais difícil e mais caro obter produtos nas prateleiras dos super-mercados, tal como o aumento dos custos de produção, desde matérias-primas até à mão-de-obra, e claro…, quem paga é o consumidor!.

…currently, no matter where in the world you live, the cause of this mega-inflation in our lives we believe began with the interruptions in the supply chain caused by the pandemic, which made it more difficult and more expensive to get products on supermarket shelves, as well as the increase in production costs, from raw materials to labor, and of course…, the consumer is the one who pays! 

…é uma situação frustrante, mas entender as razões por trás destes aumentos de preços, a nós, e repetimos já idosos, que normalmente vivemos do que amealhámos enquanto estávamos no mercado de trabalho e duma reforma onde o governo nunca acompanhou esta inflação constante, não nos pode ajudar a navegar nestes tempos desafiadores!.

…it is a frustrating situation, but understanding the reasons behind these price increases, for us, and we repeat, already elderly, who normally live off what we saved while we were in the job market and from a pension where the government never kept up with this constant inflation, cannot help us navigate these challenging times! 

…felizmente, temos moradia e o fogão na cozinha ainda vai trabalhando pelo menos uma vez ao dia, mas milhares ou mesmo milhões de pessoas em todo o mundo nada disto têm!. E cada dia que passa a inflação aumenta!. Por exemplo, no ano de  1989, o preço médio de uma casa por aqui onde presentemente vivemos era de US $46.000, hoje, são mais de $420.000, uma dúzia de ovos eram $0.78, hoje, são mais de $6.85!. 

…fortunately, we have housing and the stove in the kitchen still works at least once a day, but thousands or even millions of people around the world have none of this!. And every day that passes, inflation increases!. For example, in 1989, the average price of a house here where we currently live was US $46,000, today, it is more than $420,000, a dozen eggs were $0.78, today, it is more than $6.85!.

…sim, também sabemos que o salário de um trabalhador era menor, mas a diferença não era assim tão grande e…, quer isto dizer que existiu uma tempestade perfeita de fatores e o custo de vida aumentou e continua a aumentar todos os dias na maioria dos lugares nos últimos anos, tornando cada vez mais difícil para muitas pessoas pagarem uma casa ou a sua renda, tal como os bens de primeira necessidade, tornando a normal vida numa questão complexa e desafiadora que requer muita atenção e…, para nós pessoas idosas, cremos mesmo que qualquer mudança…, já vêm tarde!.

…yes, we also know that the salary of a worker was lower, but the difference was not that great and…, this means that there was a perfect storm of factors and the cost of living has increased and continues to increase every day in most places in recent years, making it increasingly difficult for many people to pay for a house or their rent, as well as basic necessities, making normal life a complex and challenging matter that requires a lot of attention and…, for us elderly people, we really believe that any change…, is already too late!. 

…e terminamos dizendo que o momento que hoje se vive, é uma questão complexa que requer uma abordagem cuidadosa, porque o preço da energia, particularmente petróleo, gás e electricidade, têm uma influência maciça na economia, e claro, faz aumentar o custo dos bens essenciais para se viver, e quando os custos da energia aumentam, de imediato contribui para o aumento de todos preços em geral!.

…and we end by saying that the current situation is a complex issue that requires a careful approach, because the price of energy, particularly oil, gas and electricity, has a massive influence on the economy, and of course, increases the cost of essential goods for living, and when energy costs increase, it immediately contributes to the increase of all prices in general!

…”WOW”, a nossa dedicada esposa Isaura, foi fazer as compras da semana ao super-mercado local e chegou mesmo agora e disse: “venho “perdida”, vê lá tu que uma dúzia de ovos custou $7.65”!. (o preço já subiu outra vez).

…”WOW”, our devoted wife Isaura, went to do the weekly shopping at the local supermarket and just arrived and said: “I’m “lost”, just look, a dozen eggs cost $7.65”!. (the price has already gone up again).
