…Alaska, Alaska!. Viajávamos no paralelo 60º N, como tal, nesta latitude, o sol é visível por quase 20 horas durante o solstício de quase verão!. Era mais um dia e mais uma vez a luz do sol aparecia e desaparecia e…, as montanhas também paravam de brilhar com as suas cores brilhantes!. 

…Alaska, Alaska!. We were traveling on the 60º N parallel, as such, at this latitude, the sun is visible for almost 20 hours during the almost summer solstice! It was another day and once again the sunlight appeared and disappeared and…, the mountains also stopped shining with their brilliant colors!.

…claro, logo imaginámos, então quase no verão e ainda existe alguma chuva, algum frio e tanta neve a derreter?. No entanto, o gelo deve ter que derreter durante quase todo o verão e o frio e a chuva…, deve de ser por mais uns dias!.

…of course, we immediately imagined, so it was almost summer and there was still some rain, some cold and so much snow to melt?. However, the ice must have to melt for almost the entire summer and the cold and rain…, it must be for a few more days!. 

…era manhã e tínhamos deixado Homer Spit, entrando na Península do Kenai, apreciando vales e montanhas, lagos e pequenos ribeiros, aqui e ali pequenas povoações, onde em todas sempre havia um grande letreiro à entrada desejando boas-vindas e, dizendo que ali sim, era a capital da pesca ao salmão, com uma grande fotografia de um salmão maior que a dita povoação!.

…it was morning and we had left Homer Spit, entering the Kenai Peninsula, enjoying valleys and mountains, lakes and small streams, here and there small towns, where in each one there was always a large sign at the entrance welcoming us and, saying that this was indeed the capital of salmon fishing, with a large photograph of a salmon bigger than the said town! 

…e nós, consultando o “canal climático”, aqui, nesta área dizia-nos que havia alguma chuva e algum frio, pelo menos nos próximos dois dias, então, decidimos continuar para norte e ver o cenário perto da baía de Kachemak, na medida do possível, porque certamente com esse tempo deve haver dezenas de águias pescando nas ondas e lutando pela sobrevivência na praia de lama, pedra e areia fina!.

…and we, consulting the “weather channel” here, in this area told us that there would be some rain and some cold weather, at least in the next two days, so we decided to continue north and see the scenery near Kachemak Bay, as far as possible, because surely in that weather there must be dozens of eagles fishing in the waves and fighting for survival on the beach of mud, rocks and fine sand!.

…e era verdade!. Sempre que foi possível e havia acesso íamos em direção norte/oeste, não nos importando se havia curvas suaves ou apertadas, porque sempre que havia uma abertura nas árvores o cenário era impressionante, tal como na aldeia de Anchor Point, localizada aproximadamente a 20 milhas ao norte de Homer Spit!, ondeo rio Anchor, atravessa a aldeia, oferecendo excelente pesca de salmão-rei, bem como de muitos outros tipos de peixe!. 

…and it was true!. Whenever it was possible and there was access, we went north/west, not caring if there were gentle or sharp curves, because whenever there was an opening in the trees the scenery was impressive, such as in the village of Anchor Point, located approximately 20 miles north of Homer Spit!, where the Anchor River, runs through the village, offering excellent fishing for king salmon, as well as many other types of fish!. 

…aqui a estrada Sterling Highway, (estrada #1), torna-se na estrada mais a oeste dos USA e está lá uma placa a marcar o local, e o cenário com as montanhas ainda cobertas de neve do lado de lá da baía, mostrando um cenário  impressionante!.

 …here the Sterling Highway (highway #1) becomes the most westerly road in the USA and there is a sign marking the spot, and the scenery with the mountains still covered in snow on the other side of the bay, showing an impressive scene!. 

…e elas, as águias estavam lá na praia!. Eram às dezenas, iam mergulhar nas ondas pescando, e vinham comer na praia!. Era um cenário que se vê talvez uma vez na vida!. 

…and they, the eagles were there on the beach!. There were dozens of them, diving into the waves to fish, and coming to eat on the beach!. It was a scene that you see maybe once in your life!. 

…e nós pensámos…, existe por aqui pegadas moldadas no chão!. Isto deve de ser alguém com nós, aventureiros o suficiente para andar por aqui!. 

…and we thought…, there are footprints molded in the ground around here!. This must be someone like us, adventurous enough to walk around here!.

…como tal, fomos junto delas…, e algumas voavam na nossa frente, outras nem tanto e…, olhavam-nos, chilreando, talvez querendo dizer: “fora daqui”!. 

…so, we went along with them…, and some flew in front of us, others not so much and…, they looked at us, chirping, perhaps wanting to say: “get out of here”!. 

…também parámos na pequena e pitoresca aldeia de Ninilchik, que é uma aldeia Russa que remonta ao início do século XIX, onde existem várias casas que datam do século XIX, incluindo a primeira escola Russa e uma Igreja Ortodoxa Russa, onde um qualquer visitante como nós, adora a paz existente nesta aldeia à beira do mar, que foi colonizada por funcionários da Russian American Fur Company, como uma espécie de lar de idosos para os trabalhadores de longa data, que se casaram localmente e não queriam voltar para a Rússia. As velhas famílias de Ninilchik são ortodoxas Aussas e nativas americanas!.

…we also stopped in the small and picturesque village of Ninilchik, which is a Russian village dating back to the early 19th century, where there are several houses dating back to the 19th century, including the first Russian school and a Russian Orthodox Church, where any visitor like us, loves the peace of this seaside village, which was settled by employees of the Russian American Fur Company, as a sort of retirement home for long-time workers who married locally and did not want to return to Russia. The old families of Ninilchik are Aussian Orthodox and Native American!..

…é um bom lugar para tirar fotografias interessantes, sendo uma boa oportunidade para se fazer um passeio a pé e histórico!. Esta aldeia tem uma beleza gritante, costeira e antiga, que definem os padrões do Alaska, onde a água e a luz no ar conferem uma qualidade especial e, os barcos antigos ancorados a seco, parecem encontrar locais de descanso pitorescos e…, o cenário na praia era igual ao anterior e já descrito, com as águias pescando nas ondas e vindo comer na praia!.

…it is a good place to take interesting photographs, and a good opportunity to take a historical and walking tour!. This village has a striking, coastal and ancient beauty, which defines the standards of Alaska, where the water and light in the air give it a special quality and the old dry-moored boats seem to find picturesque resting places and… the scene on the beach was the same as before and already described, with eagles fishing in the waves and coming to eat on the beach!.

…continuando a nossa jornada em direção ao norte/oeste, sempre que possível junto à baía, vendo aqui e ali um cenário de  poças de maré e os diferentes vulcões em Cook Inlet do lado de lá da baía!. 

…continuing our journey towards the north/west, whenever possible along the bay, seeing here and there a scene of tide pools and the different volcanoes in Cook Inlet on the other side of the bay!. 

…e sempre continuando em direcção ao norte/oeste, seguindo por uma estrada secundária mais próxima da costa, que é o lar de muitos alces, ursos, linces, caribus, ovelhas e muito mais, passando por algumas vilas piscatórias, mostrando algumas vistas da enseada Cook e a única praia de acesso público que encontrámos era perto de Kasilof!.

…and always continuing towards the north/west, following a secondary road closer to the coast, which is home to many moose, bears, lynx, caribou, sheep and much more, passing through some fishing villages, showing some views of Cook Inlet and the only public access beach we found was near Kasilof!. 

…ondepouco depois retornámos à Sterling Highway (estrada #1), com algumas vistas ocasionais de Cook Inlet!.

…where shortly after we returned to the Sterling Highway (road #1), with occasional views of Cook Inlet!

…e continuando sempre para norte até à cidade de Anchorage, onde pernoitámos num parque campismo!.

…and continuing north to the city of Anchorage, where we spent the night at a campsite! 

…definitivamente, valeu a pena!.

…it was definitely worth it!
