…quando viajamos pelo oeste, esperamos encontrar sempre lugares e pessoas que nunca vimos antes, com cenários e pontos de vista diferentes que, sem olharem a preconceitos ou religiões, sintam algum orgulho em habitar este planeta a que vamos chamando Terra e, se não encontrarmos esses cenários e essas pessoas, esperamos ter forças para começar tudo de novo, até outra oportunidade!.

…como tal, viajando pela estrada US-163 já no sul do estado do Utah, entrando no estado do Arizona, tínhamos chegado à área do Parque Tribal Navajo do Vale do Monumento onde aí sim, o oeste é definitivo e os espíritos ancestrais infundem paisagens rudes e disruptivas que nos parecem estranhas, onde ainda vive algum povo da Nação Navajo e lhe chamam “Tse’Bii’Ndzisgaii”, palavra difícil de pronunciar, tal como o nome do guia que nos conduziu ao interior do Parque e nos foi explicando com alguns pormenores um cenário deslumbrante e nos pediu para simplesmente lhe chamar-mos Jemmy!.

…está situado numa região que faz parte do Planalto do Colorado, que inclui grandes estruturas de pedra, incluindo o famoso “The Eye of the Sun” (O Olho do Sol), que é uma formação natural que assume a aparência de um olho, onde os sobreviventes da Nação Navajo têm encontros e festivais, com cantos e tambores!.

…o Parque Tribal Navajo do Vale do Monumento é considerado um dos lugares mais fotografados do planeta, sendo o palco de imponentes formações rochosas de arenito que foram esculpidas ao longo do tempo e sobem 400 a 1.000 pés acima do fundo do vale, combinado com as mesas circundantes, buttes e ambiente desértico, sendo verdadeiramente uma das maravilhas naturais do mundo, com uma extensão que cobre quase 92.000 acres pelo norte do Arizona e pelo sul de Utah e como anteriormente mencionámos fica dentro da reserva da Nação Navajo!.

…o mundo conhece melhor esta área, talvez em parte devido ao diretor cinematográfico John Ford, que usou este local para vários dos seus filmes mais conhecidos, protagonizados pelo actor John Wayne, e assim, os seus 13 quilómetros quadrados definiram para o mundo, o que décadas de espectadores pensam, quando imaginam o oeste americano!.

…uma condução cênica autoguiada levou-nos a vistas das famosas formações do parque, enquanto uma maior exploração nos era oferecida!. Como tal, descendo numa viajam pelo seu interior na companhia de um guia descendente da Nação Navajo, cordial no trato, falando pouco, numa voz rouca e lenta, nos ia explicando os lugares por onde passávamo e em alguns momentos tocava uma flauta, numa melodia que nos levava a meditar, assinalando diversas áreas onde os seus avós cultivaram milho, caçavam ou pastavam os seus rebanhos, prestando homenagem e respeito ao seu Deus!.

…entretanto, voltando à história deste vale, como é que estas incríveis torres de arenito se formaram, exibindo eras do poder erosivo da natureza, com formações distintas, diferentes de qualquer outro lugar do mundo, representando hoje milhões de anos, onde camadas e camadas de sedimentos se assentaram e cimentaram na sua bacia que se foi elevando, tornando-se um planalto, onde as forças naturais da água e do vento lentamente removeram os materiais mais macios e expuseram o que vemos diante de nós hoje!.

…e nós, simples viajantes do mundo, tivémos o previlégio de ocupar um lugar no parque de campismo, mesmo junto ao parque, para poder retemperar forças, para que no dia seguinte possamos continuar com a nossa jornada, recebendo na face o vento do oeste!.

…and we, simple travelers of the world, had the privilege of occupying a place in the campsite, right next to the park, to be able to regain strength, so that the next day we can continue with our journey, receiving the wind in our face from the west!.
