…adoramos visitar lugares abandonados onde às vezes nos sentimos como se tivessemos descoberto uma cápsula do tempo já esquecida!. Assim, também somos um pouco exploradores aventureiros que já encontraram muitos destinos desertos!. 

…we love visiting abandoned places where sometimes we feel as if we had discovered a forgotten time capsule!. Thus, we are also a bit adventurous explorers who have already found many deserted destinations!.

…e o estado do Alaska tem uma história fascinante com a corrida ao ouro, onde se construiram trilhas, vias aquáticas e depois em caso de sucesso, até se fizeram ferrovias temporárias, aonde os colonos iam chegando para explorar este belo estado e, um desses marcos históricos, incrívelmente é sem qualquer dúvida as Minas Kennecott, hoje umas minas de cobre abandonadas nas montanhas ao sul do Alaska, dentro do lindo Wrangell-St. Parque Nacional Elias!.

…and the state of Alaska has a fascinating history with the gold rush, where trails were built, waterways and then, in case of success, even temporary railroads were built, where settlers arrived to explore this beautiful state and, one of these Historic landmarks, incredible is without a doubt the Kennecott Mines, now an abandoned copper mine in the mountains of southern Alaska, within beautiful Wrangell-St. Elias National Park!.

…e nós, quando viajávamos para sul na Estrada Richardson que segue quase sempre ao lado do Alaska Pipeline a caminho da cidade de Valdez, despertou-nos a curiosidade quando parámos na localidade de Copper Center e tomámos conhecimento da existência destas minas abandonadas!.

…and we, when we were traveling south on the Richardson Highway, which almost always runs alongside the Alaska Pipeline on the way to the city of Valdez, aroused our curiosity when we stopped in the town of Copper Center and learned about the existence of these abandoned mines!.

…lá fomos, seguindo por uma estrada daquelas em que “devemos estar preparados para sobreviver sózinhos”, porque além de outros possíveis problemas, a cobertura do telefone celular é muito limitada!. É uma estrada única, com curvas e contracurvas e não é pavimentada, onde os buracos são comuns, assim…, sem acidentes levamos mais ou menos duas horas e meia para as aproximadamente sessenta milhas, até àquela área remota com pouco ou nenhum serviço!.

 …there we went, following a road where “we must be prepared to survive alone”, because in addition to other possible problems, cell phone coverage is very limited!. It is a single road, with curves and countercurves and is not paved, where holes are common, so…, without accidents it took us about two and a half hours for the approximately sixty miles, to that remote area with little or no service!.

…mas valeu a pena!. Porque a paisagem cultural das Minas de Kennecott, onde houve uma limpeza de materiais perigosos para a estabilização daquelas estruturas históricas que hoje se podem visitar sem o risco de qualquer perigo de contaminação e que produziram quase 200 milhões de dollares em cobre, antes de fecharem no ano de 1938, onde o local ficou abandonado por aproximadamente sessenta anos!. 

…but it was worth it!. Because the cultural landscape of the Kennecott Mines, where there was a cleanup of hazardous materials to stabilize those historic structures that can now be visited without the risk of any danger of contamination and which produced nearly $200 million worth of copper before they closed in the year of 1938, where the place was abandoned for approximately sixty years!.

…percorrendo estas ruinas, onde a Organização National dos Amigos dos Serviços de Parques de Kennecott, trabalharam muito para preservar ao máximo possível estas estruturas de numa histórica cidade fabril, que foi o centro das operações entre os anos de 1901 a 1938, onde ainda podemos admirar as ruinas de um pequeno hospital, um centro recreativo, os correios, um armazém geral e uma pista de patinação entre outras coisas, e onde famílias inteiras viviam o ano todo!.

…walking through these ruins, where the National Organization of Friends of Kennecott Park Services, worked hard to preserve as much as possible these structures in a historic factory town, which was the center of operations between the years 1901 to 1938, where we can still admire the ruins of a small hospital, a recreation center, the post office, a general store and a skating rink among other things, and where entire families lived all year round!.

…se for ao Alaska, vá até lá, é simples, mesmo muito simples e…, dito isto, boa sorte e siga o mapa!.
