…rumo ao Atlântico Norte!. (towards the North Atlantic)!.
…vamos viajar para norte, na esperança de ver o resto do planeta que fica ao sul!. Levamos a esperança de conviver com pessoas de diferentes nacionalidades, de todas as idades, de atravessar diferentes regiões, viajar por estradas remotas ou até navegar sobre o oceano gelado do Atlântico Norte, no Canadá!.. (Let’s travel north, hoping to see the rest of the planet to the south!. We hope to get along with people of different nationalities, of all ages, crossing different regions, traveling on remote roads or even surfing on the icy ocean of the North Atlantic in Canada)!.
…queremos aprender a cultura, ver a região onde os nossos avós Portugueses, que foram os primeiros povos europeus a enviarem expedições à pesca e salga do peixe bacalhau, apesar de constantemente serem perseguidos por corsários de várias paragens, naquelas águas profundas, frias e tépidas do mar do Atlântico Norte, sobretudo na agora província do Labrador, nas condições bio-oceanográficas, como as correntes frias polares, misturando-se com as águas quentes da corrente do Golfo a sul, que são favoráveis ao desenvolvimento de micro organismos que fazem com que o peixe bacalhau se agrupe em zonas relativamente próximas da costa, sobretudo o Grande Banco da Terra Nova, aproveitando as imensas plataformas submarinas, algumas a pequenas profundidades, onde este peixe se concentra, procurando a sua alimentação preferida que são os cardumes de pequenas espécies, especialmente as lulas!. (We want to learn the culture, to see the region where our Portuguese grandparents, who were the first European peoples to send expeditions to fishing and salting codfish, despite constantly being pursued by corsairs of several stops, in those deep, cold waters North Atlantic sea, especially in the now Labrador province, in the bio-oceanographic conditions, such as the cold polar currents, mixing with the warm waters of the Gulf stream to the south, which are favorable to the development of micro organisms that make the cod fish group in areas relatively close to the coast, especially the Great Bank of Newfoundland, taking advantage of the immense underwater platforms, some to small depths, where this fish concentrates, looking for its favorite feeding that are the shoals of small species, especially the squid)!.
…vamos de novo dormir com fluxos de filtragem de luz em torno das coberturas das janelas da nossa “White Fox”, (camionete de viajem), quando é dia, tarde ou noite em outras latitudes!. Vamos de novo fotografar os tons brilhantes da água, do gelo, o cenário verde das montanhas, as cores acentuadas e os movimentos de alguns animais e aves sevagens, assim como a cor daquele céu sem fim, lá no norte!. Caminhar no Parque Nacional Gros Morne, na aldeia de Twillingate, ou na de Portugal Cove, na cidade de St. John’s, ou nas colónias de gansos no Cabo St. Mary!. (Let’s sleep again with streams of light filtering around the window coverings of our “White Fox” (travel van), when it’s day, afternoon or night in other latitudes!. Let’s once again photograph the shimmering tones of water, ice, the green scenery of the mountains, the sharp colors and movements of some sevage animals and birds, as well as the color of that endless sky up there in the north!. Walk in the Gros Morne National Park, in the village of Twillingate, or in Portugal Cove, in the town of St. John’s, or in the geese colonies on Cape St. Mary)!.
…falar com as pessoas, ver ao vivo o modo de vida dos habitantes das províncias de Newfoundland (Terra Nova) e Labrador, onde a indústria pesqueira, outrora a sua pedra fundamental, continua sendo uma parte importante da sua economia, onde a colheita combinada de peixes como bacalhau, arinca, alabote, arenque e cavala, ou mariscos, como caranguejo, camarão e amêijoas, ainda representam um valor de vários milhões de dólares ao ano!. Todavia o turismo, indústrias importantes como a mineração, produção de petróleo e a fabricação, entre outras actividades, trouxeram de novo a vida ao povo desta região!. (To talk to people, to see live the way of life of the inhabitants of the provinces of Newfoundland and Labrador, where the fishing industry, once its cornerstone, remains an important part of its economy, where combined harvesting of fish such as cod, haddock, halibut, herring and mackerel, or shellfish, such as crab, shrimp and clams, still account for several million dollars a year!. However, tourism, important industries such as mining, oil production and manufacturing, among other activities, have brought life back to the people of this region)!.
…o nosso interesse pelas províncias de Newfoundland (Terra Nova) e Labrador, foi despertado pelas descrições da paisagem acidentada e do clima imprevisível que impressionam especialmente!. E claro, ver as raízes dos nossos antepassados que, no final do século XV, na tentativa de encontrar o caminho marítimo para a Índia por oeste, os aventureiros navegadores portugueses, acabaram por se deparar com a região da Terra Nova, que hoje pertence à província de Newfoundland (Terra Nova) e Labrador, no Canadá, que anos depois seria o ponto de partida para a pesca do peixe bacalhau, dos pescadores portugueses, lá no Atlântico Norte!. (Our interest in the provinces of Newfoundland and Labrador was awakened by descriptions of the rugged landscape and unpredictable weather that especially impress!. And of course, we see the roots of our ancestors who, in the late fifteenth century, in the attempt to find the maritime route to India by the west, Portuguese adventurous navigators eventually came across the region of Newfoundland and Labrador (Canada), which years later would be the starting point for fishing for codfish from Portuguese fishermen in the North Atlantic)!.
…nesta avançada idade, vamos tendo a liberdade de escolher as nossas actividades, tornando-as tão relaxadas ou cheias de acção, como cada pessoa queria que a sua experiência fosse!. Quando em qualquer momento parar-mos para dormir ou retemperar forças, sempre haverá alguém por perto, com entusiasmo para se juntar a nós, cuja energia positiva vamos sentir em cada novo avistamento da vida selvagem ou de uma foto capturada, que exemplificará a imagem de uma aula de cultura que a cada instante a natureza nos dá!. Vamos ver e pensar outras regiões, descobrir a história do Atlântico Norte, com óptimos lugares de cultura indígena, super animados e gratos por fazer parte dela!. (At this advanced age, we are given the freedom to choose our activities, making them as relaxed or action-packed as each person wanted their experience to be!. When we stop at any moment to sleep or re-energize, there will always be someone around, enthusiastically joining us, whose positive energy we will feel in each new wildlife sighting or a captured photo, which will exemplify the image of a class of culture that nature gives us at every moment!. Let’s see and think other regions, discover the history of the North Atlantic, with great places of indigenous culture, super animated and grateful to be part of it)!.
…por uns dias vamos estar afastados do vosso convívio, talvez algumas notícias de lugares mais especiais irão surgir, mas de uma forma simples!. Todavia, fica a promessa de que quando regressar-mos de novo à nossa residência aqui no estado da Florida, vão ter conhecimento de toda a nossa aventura, de cada momento, do começo e do fim de um outro dia, que por certo será fantástico!. (For a few days we will be away from your acquaintance, maybe some news of more special places will come up, but in a simple way!. Nonetheless, there is the promise that when we return to our residence here in Florida, you will be aware of our entire adventure, of every moment, of the beginning and end of another day, which will certainly be fantastic).
