…vamos escrevendo, porque na escrita encontramos as emoções do sentir!. Talvez como os pássaros que voam na escuridão ou mesmo aquelas flores que crescem no entulho e quase não se vêem, e também quase ninguém repara, mas ambos existem, tal como nós, que entre outras coisas, ainda nos vamos lembrando dos caminhos da vida que fomos percorrendo por alguns continentes, regiões ou lugares antes desconhecidos e, nos sentimos uns previlegiados em contar estas memórias, claro, sempre na expectativa que possam ser úteis, sobretudo para os vindouros!.

…assim, vamos à história de hoje!. Em alguns momentos da nossa já longa existência, sentimos muitas saudades da nossa gente, da nossa aldeia quase mediaval do século passado, naquela encosta agreste da montanha do Caramulo, onde a natureza era tão simples, onde se nascia sem trazer nada, morrendo sem levar nada e, no meio ninguém brigava por algo, porque sabiam que também não levavam nada!.

In some moments of our long existence, we miss our people, our almost mediaval village of the last century, on that rough slope of the Caramulo mountain, where nature was so simple, where you were born without bringing anything, dying without taking nothing and, in the middle nobody fought for something, because they knew they didn’t take anything either)!.

…era uma vida tão simples, que não se sentia a dificuldade que era andar descalço e com pouca roupa no corpo, calcando o gelo da montanha ou tomando banho nú no riacho de água pura que corria ao fundo do vale!. A maioria de nós, o povo, vivíamos do campo e do que ele nos dava!. Era uma agricultura artezanal de sobrevivência, que também ajudava à criação de algum gado, trabalhando desde muito cedo até tarde, talvez umas 15 ou 16 horas por dia!.

…vivíamos em comunidade!. Se uma família tinha fartura, todas tinham fartura, se o tempo não era favorável à agricultura e havia fome, todas tinham fome!. A alimentação era pobre, consistindo naquilo que se produzia, sendo o pão de milho a sua base principal e, para além da sopa, às vezes uma sardinha ou carne de porco salgada, mas difícilmente se comia carne!. As azeitonas, pão de trigo ou centeio, tal como queijos frescos, era um petisco sazonal e raro, no entanto havia alguma fartura em legumes, mas o arroz, açucar, manteiga café ou até bacalhau, eram escassos, porque havia que os comprar e dinheiro, não havia!.

…o vestuário variava conforme o clima e o trabalho, mas normalmente, era usado repetidas vezes, remendando-se até já não ser possível mais a sua utilização!. Tal como a habitação que era pobre, sendo a cozinha a principal divisão da casa, onde havia uma grande lareira em frente à boca do forno com uma trempe ou uma “panela de três pernas”, que cozinhava tanto para nós como para os animais!.

…claro, tudo isto na nossa classe pobre, porque naquele tempo, nas vilas ou cidades, a burguesia e a nobreza eram ricas, formando uma classe influente, alguma ligada ao comércio ou ocupando cargos no governo, vivendo em casas luxuosas ou em palácios e, normalmente faziam 4 ou 5 refeições por dia, servidas por pessoas quase escravizadas do povo, que saindo da miséria que viviam em casa dos seus pais nas aldeias, para lá iam servi-los, só pelo comer e vestir, que era os restos daquilo que lhes crescia e, no lugar de ir parar ao lixo, alimentava e vestia estas pessoas a quem a sorte não sorriu!.

…no entanto, havia alguns com alguma ambição que saiam das aldeias e, vinham para as vilas ou cidades com a intenção de melhorar o seu estilo de vida ou talvez proporcionar melhor educação aos seus filhos!. Esses, desempenhavam a maior parte das actividades rudes mas necessárias, que quase ninguém queria fazer, como aguadeiros, operários, lavadeiras, limpa chaminés, jardineiros ou vendedores ambulantes!. A sua vida, apesar de algumas melhorias, continuava a ser dura, vivendo em casas ou casebres pequenas nos arrabaldes, velhas e húmidas, sem iluminação, esgotos ou água canalizada, com uma alimentação também pobre, pouco variada e comida quase sempre fora de horas!.

…alguns destes, sendo tarefeiros no porto naval da capital Lisboa, refugiando-se em navios que saíam para o Brazil, embora sendo do povo, sabe-se lá como, fizeram fortuna, regressando a Portugal tentando imitar o estilo de vida da classe burguesa, construindo palácios, vivendo e trajando “à grande e à francesa”, porque era norma também, o seu vestuário reflectir a sua riqueza!. Era frequente, quando se passava por uma casa nova, grande e com aspecto mais bonito, dizer-se: “é de algum Brazileiro”!.

…tudo isto foram bocados das nossas raízes, da nossa juventude, que nos fizeram compreender o bem sobre o mal, tempos de alguma repressão aos pobres e, quando havia crises, eram enormes que, tal como já o escrevemos por diversas vezes, aliadas ao recrutamente obrigatório para integrar contingentes para a guerra colonial em África, quando apareciam doenças, a taxa de mortalidade era grande, pois no seio das famílias, num mundo rural empobrecido, o acesso a roupa nova e limpa ou medicinas de manutenção, era muito difícil, tal como a higiene corporal tornava-se num ritual ocasional e não uma prática regular!.
