…vivemos por aqui, escrevemos do que vemos por aqui!. 

(…we live around here, we write from what we see around here)!.

…a Primavera chegou!. A mudança para esta estação oferece-nos uma oportunidade única para ir lá para fora e desfrutar a fronteira com o Oceano Atlântico, disfrutar do seu litoral com mais de 200 dias ensolarados por ano, tornar a ver os animais ou as aves no seu habitate de florestas em terras secas ou submersas com água fresca ou salgada, o que nos faz entender ainda melhor a natureza pura que felizmente ainda por aqui existe!.

(…spring has come!. The change to this season offers us a unique opportunity to go outside and enjoy the border with the Atlantic Ocean, enjoy its coastline with more than 200 sunny days a year, see animals or birds in their Forests in dry lands or submerged with fresh or salt water, which makes us understand even better the pure nature that fortunately still exists here)!.

…porque a construção de novas casas de habitação tem estado muito activa nestes últimos meses na nossa área e…, em terra ocupada pela construção não nascem árvores ou flores, inspirando-nos à desumanização!. Porquê?. Porque os humanos têm feito do planeta Terra um inferno, principalmente mal tratando a natureza, e claro, as aves e os animais!.

(…because the construction of new dwellings has been very active in recent months in our area and…, trees or flowers do not grow on land occupied by construction, inspiring us to dehumanize!. Why?. Because humans have made the planet Earth hell, mainly by mistreating nature, and of course, birds and animals)!.

…e, a herança marítima da costa histórica da Flórida remonta de aproximadamento uns 6.000 anos, onde os primeiros lugares habitados ficavam próximos do lugar onde presentemente vivemos, ou seja na costa leste do norte da Flórida, principalmente numa comunidade de índios “timucuana”, chamada Seloy!. 

(…and, the maritime heritage of the historic coast of Florida dates back approximately 6,000 years, where the first inhabited places were close to where we currently live, that is, on the east coast of North Florida, mainly in a community of “Timucuana” Indians, called Seloy)!.

…claro, com a chegada dos exploradores europeus, por volta do século 16, trouxeram para esse povo pacífico um conflito cultural travado pela liberdade religiosa e principalmente pelo controle de lucrativas rotas marítimas, onde os navegadores europeus de então, observaram uma medição quase perfeita mais a norte, ou seja, como acima já mencionámos, próximo do lugar onde presentemente vivemos, que lhes permitia uma latitude que, antes de virar para sul, tiravam vantagem das correntes oceânicas, deixando este continente e navegando em direcção à Europa!.

(…of course, with the arrival of European explorers, around the 16th century, they brought to this peaceful people a cultural conflict fought for religious freedom and mainly for the control of profitable maritime routes, where the European navigators of the time, observed an almost perfect measurement more to the north, that is, as we mentioned above, close to the place where we currently live, which allowed them a latitude that, before turning south, took advantage of the ocean currents, leaving this continent and sailing towards Europe)!.

…deixando por aqui este povo “timucuana”, às vezes expoliado dos seus bens, que antes vivia a sua cultura, numa combinação de clima quente, humidade, furacões, pântanos, fauna nativa que felizmente ainda inclui jacarés, (alligators), cobras, panteras, linces, formigas-de-fogo, tatus ou aranhas tão grandes que poderiam funcionar como aviões e, outras coisas que são frequente ver aqui na Flórida!.

(…leaving this “Timucuana” people, sometimes deprived of their goods, who used to live their culture, in a combination of hot climate, humidity, hurricanes, swamps, native fauna that fortunately still includes alligators, snakes, panthers, lynxes, fire ants, armadillos or spiders so big that they could function as airplanes and other things that are common to see here in Florida)!.

…e, nas nossas caminhadas quase diárias paramos aqui e ali, fotografamos ou simplesmente admiramos os “alligators”, (alguns já nos conhecem), ou as aves de rapina “ospreys’, parecidas aos falcões ou mesmo às águias, com asas esbeltas e estreitas e pernas longas, que habitam nas florestas perto de grandes estuários costeiros ou pântanos salgados, empoleiradas em árvores altas, observando os peixes que passam próximos, ou as bonitas e graciosas garças, que pescam na corrente do canal!. 

(…and, on our almost daily walks, we stop here and there, photograph or simply admire the “alligators”, (some of you already know us), or the birds of prey “ospreys”, similar to hawks or even eagles, with slender wings and narrow and long-legged, which inhabit the forests near large coastal estuaries or salt marshes, perched on tall trees, watching the fish that pass by, or the beautiful and graceful herons, which fish in the current of the channel)!.

…ou ainda caminhando por carreiros, dentro de uma selva ainda conservada, (quase igual como era em séculos atrás), onde além do ar puro que se respira, admiramos árvores de carvalho e cipreste centenárias com “spanish moss” (musgo Espanhol) pendurado nos seus galhos, macio, gracioso e bonito ao mesmo tempo, que é um símbolo romântico do sul, que fica com uma cor prateado esverdeado depois de uma chuva e prateado acinzentado em outros momentos!.

(…or walking along paths, inside a still preserved jungle (almost the same as it was in centuries ago), where in addition to the pure air that we breathe, we admire centenary oak and cypress trees with “Spanish moss” hanging in its branches, soft, graceful and beautiful at the same time, which is a romantic symbol of the south, which turns silver-green after a rain and silver-gray at other times)!.

…e claro, os tais “alligators”, como acima já mencionámos, que aqui e ali nos aparecem ao lado dos pântanos e riachos que vêm da floresta em direcção à corrente do canal, que por sua vez vai desaguar no oceano!.

(…and of course, the so-called “alligators”, as we mentioned above, that here and there appear next to the swamps and streams that come from the forest towards the current of the channel, which in turn will flow into the ocean)!.
