…a hoje histórica Route 66, depressa se tornou numa das estradas mais famosas dos USA, que partia originalmente da  Adams Street, na cidade de Chicago, estado de Illinois, através dos estados de Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, Novo México e Arizona antes de terminar na Santa Monica Pier, no Condado de Los Angeles, Califórnia, cobrindo um total de 2.448 milhas (3.940 km)!.

…the now historic Route 66, quickly became one of the most famous roads in the USA, which originally ran from Adams Street, in the city of Chicago, Illinois, through the states of Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico and Arizona before ending at Santa Monica Pier, in Los Angeles County, California, covering a total of 2,448 miles (3,940 km)!.

…porquê?. Porque, originalmente serviu como rota principal para aqueles que migraram para o oeste, especialmente durante o ‘“Dust Bowl dos anos 30”e, esta estrada sustentava as economias das comunidades pelas quais passava, onde as pessoas que faziam negócios ao longo da sua rota tornaram-se prósperas devido à sua crescente popularidade e, essas mesmas pessoas mais tarde lutaram para manter a estrada viva, diante da crescente ameaça de serem ignoradas pelo novo sistema de Estradas Rápidas interestaduais!.

…why?. Because it originally served as the main route for those migrating west, especially during the Dust Bowl of the 1930s, this road supported the economies of the communities it passed through, where the people who did business along its route became prosperous due to its growing popularity, and these same people later fought to keep the road alive in the face of the growing threat of being bypassed by the new Interstate Rapid Highway system!

…depois da “Grande Depressão”, tornou-se no “Caminho de Voo” para as famílias de agricultores que escapavam ao já mencionado “Dust Bowl dos anos 30”, gerando uma onda no movimento de massas onde as famílias, viajavam para Oeste, na procura de ingressar e não só, no mercado de trabalho da Califórnia!.

..after the “Great Depression”, it became the “Flight Path” for farming families escaping the aforementioned “Dust Bowl of the 1930s”, generating a wave in the mass movement where families traveled to the West, looking to enter, and beyond, the California job market!

…hoje é histórica, e pessoas como nós, já retiradas do mercado de trabalho, que apreciam a natureza e adoram viajar por partes desta estrada que, ao passaram pelos estados já mencionados, foram designadas comunalmente como National Scenic Byway, pelo nome “Historic Route 66”, retornando ao seu original nome e reeditando alguns mapas!.

..today it is historic, and people like us, already retired from the job market, who appreciate nature and love to travel along parts of this road that, when passing through the states already mentioned, were commonly designated as National Scenic Byway, by the name “Historic Route 66”, returning to its original name and reissuing some maps!.

..e quando a oportunidade surgiu, depois de alguns preparativos, já por duas vezes  entrámos nesta histórica estrada, na Adams Street, na cidade de Chicago, no estado de Illinois, começando a percorre-la, não só porque é única e simplesmente a…, estrada mais famosa dos USA, que gerações de viajantes romantizaram, como um símbolo de mobilidade ilimitada e liberdade de circulação!.

…and when the opportunity arose, after some preparations, we entered this historic road twice, on Adams Street, in the city of Chicago, in the state of Illinois, starting to travel it, not only because it is unique and simply the…, the most famous road in the USA, which generations of travelers have romanticized, as a symbol of unlimited mobility and freedom of movement!.

….depois deste breve resumo, vamos explicar algo do que vimos, quando da nossa passagem por esta histórica estrada pelo estado da California, entrando no deserto de Mojave, com temperaturas altas, entre 100 ou 110 graus, viajando com alguma lentidão na linha da direita, saindo num qualquer desvio para passar pela localidade de Needles, todavia não parámos, mas podemos ver muitos letreiros restaurados em néon, de motéis, restaurantes e outros monumentos!.

….after this brief summary, we will explain some of what we saw, when we passed through this historic road through the state of California, entering the Mojave Desert, with high temperatures, between 100 and 110 degrees, traveling somewhat slowly on the right line, taking some detour to pass through the town of Needles, however we didn’t stop, but we could see many restored neon signs, of motels, restaurants and other monuments!.

…continuando a nossa rota rumo ao Oceano Pacífico, cruzámos a cidade de São Bernardino, onde principalmente na Mt. Vernon Avenue, é a casa de alguns antigos motéis, cafés, restaurantes, estações de gasolina ou garagens de reparações, tudo muito parecido com o “folclore da Histórica Route 66”, a que já estávamos familiarizados!.

…continuing our route towards the Pacific Ocean, we crossed the city of San Bernardino, where mainly on Mt. Vernon Avenue, is home to some old motels, cafes, restaurants, gas stations or repair garages, all very similar to the “folklore of Historic Route 66”, with which we were already familiar!.

…entretanto já havia letreiros indicando o caminho para Santa Mónica, que era o nosso destino, onde depois de algum tempo chegámos finalmente!. Estacionámos a nossa “White Fox” (caravana), em frente ao Oceano Pacífico, caminhámos pela Santa Monica Pier, tirando fotos, alegrando-nos por termos terminado esta aventura de cruzar o território dos USA do Leste ao Oeste, do Atlântico ao Pacífico, viajando pela famosa estrada 66, de caravana, vendo a dificuldade que os nossos avós tiveram no passado ao viajar nesta estrada, acampando e comendo  aqui e ali, apreciando montanhas e rios, animais e paisagens exóticas, vendo pessoas diferentes, amáveis aqui e menos amáveis acolá, alguma chuva e vento, outras vezes céu azul e sol radiante, mas sempre na esperança de chegar, e ver o Oceano Pacífico!.

…meanwhile there were already signs indicating the way to Santa Mónica, which was our destination, where after some time we finally arrived!. We parked our “White Fox” (caravan), in front of the Pacific Ocean, walked along the Santa Monica Pier, taking photos, being happy that we had finished this adventure of crossing the USA from East to West, from the Atlantic to the Pacific, traveling along the famous road 66, by caravan, seeing the difficulty that our grandparents had in the past when traveling on this road, camping and eating here and there, enjoying mountains and rivers, animals and exotic landscapes, seeing different, kind people here and less pleasant there, some rain and wind, other times blue skies and radiant sun, but always hoping to arrive and see the Pacific Ocean!.
