…a família veio visitar-nos aqui no sul nesta época em que se celebra a história cristã da Páscoa!. E afinal o que é a Páscoa?. Bem, para nós que criámos e educámos a nossa família guiados pelos princípios dos evangelhos que nos contam a história narrativa da vida, morte e ressurreição de Jesus e nos deixam claro que Cristo morreu pelos pecados da humanidade!. Assim, esta é a base da história da Páscoa!.

Contavam-nos nessa já referida classe de catequese, outros pormenores como por exemplo, que foi apresentado em Jerusalém como, “este é Jesus, o rei dos judeus”, que foi “Maria Madalena uma das mulheres que encontrou a pedra de seu túmulo rolada e o seu corpo não estava mais lá dentro”, que foi morto, depois do “sofrimento de carregar a pesada cruz onde foi pregado”, e “a sua morte e ressurreição foi o perdão de Cristo à humanidade!.

…foi esta a história que nos contaram e que fomos transmitindo aos nossos descendentes, no entanto hoje e como acima já explicámos, existem outras tradições envolvendo reuniões, festas, coelhinhos e ovos, coisas que no nosso modesto entender não fazem parte do significado bíblico da Páscoa, mas estão presentes nas celebrações modernas e, talvez tenham algumas raízes pagãs, ainda assim, para nós, tem pouco a ver com a alegação do feriado pagão da Páscoa!.

…depois, os estúdios de cinema em Hollywood também contribuiram para alguma controvérsia, mostrando filmes mais abrangentes da Páscoa que evocam histórias que envolvem a morte e ressurreição de Cristo como a morte histórica de um judeu ou que aquele homem, Jesus de Nazaré, de acordo com a crença cristã é a encarnação da segunda pessoa de Deus, mas ainda um verdadeiro homem de carne e osso e, que “a  Páscoa celebra a liberdade dos hebreus do cativeiro e da escravidão dos egípcios”!.

Andam pelo quintal na procura dos tais “ovos e coelhinhos”, o que nos dá muita alegria, fazendo de nós uns “avós babados” e tal como os adultos abraçam-nos, que nesta idade é o que mais necessitamos, ou seja, da sua presença, de saúde, de paz e de amor!.

…esta semana, aqui na cidade onde presentemente vivemos, do céu  caíram toneladas de água pura para limpar a porcaria que os humanos vão  deixando aqui e ali, poluindo este planeta que não é de ninguém, (nós só passamos por cá) e é nossa inteira obrigação deixá-lo ainda habitável aos nossos netos!. O cheiro a terra molhada dos tempos de infância chegaram em bom momento e felizmento o longo inverno de alguns excessos terminou!.

Dá mais valor àquilo que vai pagar do que à arte que vai comprar!.

Os que ainda por cá ficarem, o avaliarão!.

Levou-nos quase todo o inverno onde não era muito agradável andar lá fora!. Ainda é de madeira, não de plástico, alumínio ou fórmica, que é o que presentemente se usa!.

…infelizmente já restamos poucos daquela multidão humana da última metade do século passado!. Hoje, o ritmo de vida entrou em “modo automático” e continua a acelarar vertiginosamente!. Resultado?. Os templos de adoração, que eram o espaço de devoção e de idolatria ou aqueles monumentos, praças ou lugares de prestígio nacional, tornaram-se em corredores onde circulam os ídolos da sociedade do século XXI, ou seja, aqueles cromos, corruptos, fúteis, ladrões, egocêntricos e… gananciosos e… tudo o que nós sabemos e não sabemos, ser a verdade!.

…no entanto, alguns ainda continuam a ser famosos e em certos casos até são idolatrados e considerados inocentes!. E nós, os de antigamente, parecemos calmos por fora, mas na verdade, somos uma catástrofe por dentro, em parte derivado ao que vamos vendo e assistindo, e claro, por tabela, também vamos sentindo no corpo e na alma, esperando o além, pois cremos mesmo que é o único lugar onde ainda existe algum futuro!

…nós que em crianças, lá na nossa aldeia naquela encosta agreste da montanha do Caramulo, tivémos a felicidade de observar uma flor silvestre que alimentava uma abelha e, que nos transmitia a renovação e a beleza de uma primavera florida, hoje choramos comovidos, ao presenciar imagens do mundo actual dos humanos, dramáticamente irrelevante, sem qualquer sentido, com invasões às populações das cidades que são invadidas por hostes bárbaras, escolhendo um salto para o vazio e para a destruição, em vez do diálogo, que podia evitar tamanha injustiça e violência!.

A cada tentativa de conquista anulada por forças moderadas ou pacíficas, novo golpe é concebido pelas hostes bárbaras para prosseguir em seu contínuo movimento de expansão e controle!. É como que, “a crueldade das bestas selvagens” e, cremos mesmo que atingimos os limites, ou seja, batemos no fundo da imoralidade!.

…embora vivendo no estado da Flórida, já algumas vezes aqui escrevemos, mencionando as nossas aventuras rumo ao norte, viajando pelo norte oeste!. Tudo se torna muito simples, viajamos em direcção ao oeste, um pouco antes de começar uma curva para norte, depois outra vez para oeste, mas sempre no sentido norte!.

…aqui e ali, às vezes encontramos a aventura pendurada numa corda ao lado duma montanha, dum rio selvagem, numa estrada deserta, dentro de uma tempestade, onde 574.156,74… galões de chuva constante, ou 732.489,24… pés quadrados de neve branca e gelada, que nos causavam algumas dificuldades mas, se na verdade queremos saber verdadeiramente quem somos, teremos que viajar até que ninguém saiba o nosso nome!.

…e continuando, acreditem ou não, chegamos ao distante estado do Alaska!. E, sem qualquer dúvida, ver um urso marrom majestoso arrebatando salmão de um qualquer riacho do Alaska, é a memória de uma vida!. Mas, por mais icónicos que sejam esses animais predadores, são apenas o começo das surpresas para nós vindos do sul, que o Alaska tem para nos oferecer, como por exemplo manter os olhos abertos para admirar as águias, ursos negros tímidos, baleias jubarte acrobáticas, e claro, o majestoso alce, o maior membro da família dos cervos!.

…ou mesmo o silêncio da Cordilheira Chugach, ou outras montanhas, numa área ainda selvagem, que são o paraíso de alguns garimpeiros de ouro, (ao qual nos juntamos por algum tempo, encontrando mesmo uns pequenos flocos), que insistem na sua procura, metidos nos ribeiros, com uma pá, um balde e uma bacia, com persistência e um pouco de paciência, tentando a sua chance de encontrar flocos de ouro do Alaska!.

…depois, toda esta beleza natural, nos faz recordar o Alaska para sempre, e claro, em parte continuarmos a receber notícias e seguir o que por lá se passa e, na página do Anchorage Daily News podemos ler que o “musher” (condutor de um trenó puxado por cães), Brent Sass chegou às 5h38 de terça-feira em primeiro à distante cidade de Nome, passando assim a vencer a Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race 2022 e, esta corrida de cães de trenó Iditarod Trail de 1.000 milhas tem um novo campeão!. Parabéns Brent Sass!.

…tal como também já estivémos em alguns lugares, embora sendo época de verão, portanto sem neve, caminhando por pequeninos troços do percurso da “Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race”, que fazem parte do que foi a história de pioneiros, que no século XIX, que atravessaram não só planícies na procura da sua terra prometida, como também a “tundra” (região ártica, plana e sem árvores com o subsolo permanentemente congelado), próximo do Mar de Bearing, à luz do “sol da meia-noite”!.

…esta é uma corrida anual de cães de trenó de longa distância, disputada no início de Março e, que vai desde a cidade de Anchorage até à cidade de Nome, inteiramente dentro do estado americano do Alaska, onde “mushers”, que é o nome dado aos condutores de um trenó puxado por cães, e uma equipe que pode ir de 12 a 16 cães, (nenhum pode ser adicionado durante a corrida) e, dos quais pelo menos 5 devem estar no trenó na linha de chegada, cobrindo a distância em 8-15 dias ou tavez até mais!.

…este evento começou no ano de 1973, como sendo um evento para testar os melhores “mushers” com as suas equipes de cães de trenó, mas evoluiu para a corrida altamente competitiva de hoje, onde este pomposo nome de “Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race”, não é mais do que uma homenagem ao que faziam os pioneiros pesquisadores de ouro do século dezoito ou dezanove, que se aventuravam para leste, quando desembarcavam na cidade de Nome, no Mar de Bearing!.

…com a idade, tornámo-nos em observador de pássaros!. Porquê?. Porque na área onde presentemente vivemos eles abundam e, nos nossos passeios quase diários, caminhando por alguns “trails”, já os conhecemos, eles estão lá quase sempre em alguns mesmos lugares, e claro, obviamente, quase sem o sabermos também nos tornámos em grandes defensores da observação de pássaros nos seus lugares naturais e primitivos e entendemos que ver os pássaros nativos na sua área natural é um previlégio que ainda vamos usufruindo!.

…esta águia, uma ave de rapina com alguma beleza, às vezes está lá empoleirada no topo de uma árvore, quando caminhamos ao lado do canal de água salgada!. Ela está protegida aqui na Flórida, embora continue na lista de espécies ameaçadas, a Flórida tem uma das concentrações mais densas de nidificação de águias americanas dos seus 48 estados mais baixos, que se concentram e agrupam em torno de lagos, rios e sistemas costeiros, com uma estimativa de 1.500 pares de nidificação!.

…seguindo pela estrada US-163, no Utah, umas milhas para sul, já se avistavam ao longe uma série de formações de arenito, altos, vermelhos e isolados, morros e falésias esculpidas ao longo de 250 milhões de anos que com o poder do tempo, da água, do vento e do gelo em ação, nos mostram uma paisagem desértica, ficando cercados de aventura ao entrar em território da Nação Navajo, atravessando o coração da área do Vale do Monumento e que tem sido destaque em inúmeros filmes!.

…seguimos numa condução cênica autoguiada levando-nos a ver de perto as famosas formações do parque, enquanto uma maior exploração nos era oferecida, descendo numa viajam pelo interior do Parque na companhia de um guia, descendente da Nação Navajo, cordial no trato, falava pouco, numa voz rouca e lenta, explicando os lugares por onde passávamos e, em alguns momentos tocava uma flauta, numa melodia que nos levava a meditar, assinalando diversas áreas onde os seus avós cultivaram milho, caçavam ou pastavam os seus rebanhos, prestando homenagem e respeito ao seu Deus!.

…somos oriundos da Europa, mais propriamente da Península Ibérica e cremos que descendentes do povo Celta, porque adoramos o mar, o contacto com a água revolta das ondas, afundando os pés na areia molhada, vendo as gaivotas sobrevoando e os pelicanos nadando ao sabor da maré!. Cremos também que para viver hoje nos tempos modernos, foi o motivo porque fomos forçados a adoptar formas de vida urbanas, porque de outra maneira, queríamos viver em pleno contacto com a natureza, se possível numa cabana junto ao mar!.

No entanto, quando o tempo o permite, fazemos o nosso passeio preferido que é o que chamamos o “Caminho da Água”, que afinal é um simples passeio na área da enseada de Matanzas que é limitada ao norte pelo “Monumento Nacional do Forte Matanzas”, que está situado numas terras públicas junto ao rio Matanzas e ao sul pela entrada no oceano, onde existe uma ponte!. É um bonito passeio, porque a área continua tal qual como há séculos, porque são terras históricas e federais onde não podem ser feitas qualquer obras de contenção das marés!.

…fica situada no sul do condado de St. Johns, a cerca de 14 milhas ao sul de St. Augustine e três milhas ao norte de “Marineland”. É uma das poucas “entradas” restantes no nordeste da Flórida que não está  protegida por um cais, apresentando assim um estudo fácil de como uma enseada poderia ter sido no passado!. Devido a esta falta de proteção, a entrada está em constante estado de fluxo e como acima explicámos pode mudar consideravelmente num período de tempo relativamente curto!.

…a entrada no oceano, hoje é atravessada por uma ponte moderna na Estrada considerada cénica e também histórica A1A e que fica significativamente ao sul da outra entrada que existia no ano de 1740, quando os espanhóis começaram a construção do Forte de Matanzas na Ilha Cascável, para proteger a abordagem sul através do rio Matanzas até ao seu “Castillo de San Marcos” na hoje cidade de em Santo Agostinho!.

…assim o cenário que observamos hoje é diferente daquele que vimos uns dias antes, porque a maré, às vezes revolta, leva e trás a areia, construindo ou devastando as dunas que por lá existem, fazendo deste local o paraíso para muitos e variados pássaros, como patos, pelicanos, garças ou aqueles a quem todos nós chamados de “gaivotas”, que gostam de se alimentar de peixes, no entanto, não sabemos qual a explicação para este fenómeno, pois podem beber água doce ou salgada e que às vezes também as vimos voar e pousar ao redor dos lagos, no nosso quintal, tal como brincar nas ondas e mergulhando no oceano!.

…ou os Ternes Reais, que são uma espécie de andorinhas-do-mar, que por ali fazem os seus ninhos e que estão a ser protegidos pelo governo federal e que durante a época de reprodução, essas aves geralmente tímidas envolvem-se em exibições dramáticas de distração para proteger os seus ninhos e filhotes ao nível do solo e por ali estão próximos!.

…ou os Pelicanos que são umas aves marinhas grandes e atarracadas, com  asas longas que se curvam ao planar, dando um aspecto um pouco cómico, talvez caprichosos e apresentam pescoços finos e bicos bastante longos com uma bolsa elástica na garganta que lhes permite capturar os peixes!. Geralmente voam baixo sobre as ondas, em fila indiana, batendo e planando e observando-os no seu comportamento alimentar é bastante agradável de assistir, porque uma vez que eles determinam que há peixes lá embaixo, mergulham de cabeça na água em busca da sua refeição!.

…e, principalmente quando a maré está baixa, aparecem na areia moluscos ou  crustáceos, que são a comida daquelas aves com pernas finas e bicos longo que a natureza contemplou com o instinto de sondar a comida na areia, lama, cascalho e água!.

…enfim, a Flórida tem um litoral enorme e bonito e os pássaros por aqui gostam de se misturar tanto na praia como no ar e, caminhando pela areia desta bonita enseada, ao longe podemos observar o “Monumento Nacional do Forte Matanzas”, sendo-nos difícil imaginar o dia-a-dia que os nove soldados espanhóis, que eram um oficial e oito praças, enfrentaram naquela distante época, enquanto guarneciam este pequeno posto avançado de seis canhões no meio do nada, guardando a abordagem sul da hoje cidade de Santo Agostinho!.

…quando o explorador espanhol Juan Ponce de Leon, que liderou a primeira expedição europeia à Flórida por volta do ano de 1513, nomeando este estado em homenagem à celebração da Páscoa em Espanha, conhecida como “Pascua Florida” ou talvez a “Festa das Flores” e  encontrando as praias e florestas quase desertas, nunca lhe devia ter passado pelo seu pensamento que hoje, ano de 2022, aproximadamente 1.000 pessoas se mudam para a Flórida todos os dias!.

Porque é conhecida pela sua beleza natural, como o parque natural dos Everglades e, porque hoje é chamado de “Estado do Sol” pelo seu sol abundante e clima subtropical geralmente mais quente, sendo uma combinação perfeita de clima quente, humidade, furacões, pântanos, e claro, a sua fauna nativa que inclui jacarés, cobras, panteras, linces, formigas-de-fogo, tatus e aranhas, que são tão grandes que poderiam funcionar como “aviões”!.

…e também outras coisas que são monótonas para nós aqui na Flórida, mas consideradas bastante excitantes “lá fora” para o resto do mundo,  como por exemplo, ter o litoral mais longo dos EUA continentais, com cerca de 1.197 milhas terrestres, sendo 825 dessas milhas de praias acessíveis para desfrutar!.

…ser o único estado que faz fronteira com o Golfo do México e o Oceano Atlântico, onde se pode usufruir de mais de 200 dias ensolarados por ano, (no entanto este ano, ainda não sabemos porquê, tivémos mais de quatro semanas de frio gelado), mas normalmente oferece aos recém-chegados um clima excepcionalmente quente e ensolarado e aqueles que vivem na parte sul do estado, provavelmente nunca precisarão de mais do que um suéter durante o inverno!. 

(…being the only state that borders the Gulf of Mexico and the Atlantic Ocean, where you can enjoy more than 200 sunny days a year, (however this year, we still don’t know why, we had more than four weeks of freezing cold), but it typically offers newcomers exceptionally warm and sunny weather and those who live in the southern part of the state will likely never need more than a sweater during the winter)!.

…certamente que quando o explorador espanhol Juan Ponce de Leon, que liderou a primeira expedição europeia à Flórida, iniciando a construção de  fortalezas nos principais portos do Caribe, assegurando assim a importância estratégica do Canal das Bahamas e da posição de Havana como um porto chave para o encontro da Frota anual de galeões do tesouro, que navegando pelo estreito da Flórida, aproveitando a corrente do Golfo, seguiam carregados de ouro, prata e outros bens rumo à Europa, não pensou no tal clima subtropical e na beleza da natureza, onde existiam, canais e rios selvagens, tal como florestas e praias, mas sim nos seus bens materiais, como a história nos recorda!.

…por aqui o sol não nos visita, continua frio gelado, quando na verdade devia de haver algum sol e uma temperatura mais quente!. Não sabemos se tudo isto é mormal mas na verdade, até nos desertos pode ficar frio e um dia de neve ou de frio gelado não representa uma mudança climática, mas aqui na Flórida continua frio já vai para quase quatro semanas!. Será que realmente se está a assistir a uma mudança climática?.

(…here the sun does not visit us, it is still freezing cold, when in fact there should be some sun and a warmer temperature!. We do not know if all this is normal but in fact, even in the deserts it can get cold and a day of snow or freezing cold does not represent a climate change, but here in Florida it is still cold for almost four weeks!. Are we really witnessing a climate change)?.

…se assim continuar vamos chamar os estúdios da Walt Disney na cidade de Orlando aqui na Flórida, para usarem esta área nas fimagens de qualquer filme de fantasia no gelo!. Até pode ser um qualquer “conto de fadas” com inspiração numa princesa e seus companheiros numa jornada para encontrar quem é que controla estas coisas como o gelo e o frio!.

(…if this continues, we will call Walt Disney studios in the city of Orlando here in Florida, to use this area in the filming of any fantasy film on ice!. It can even be any “fairy tale” inspired by a princess and her companions on a journey to find who controls these things like ice and cold)!.

…continuamos em casa a maior parte do tempo, indo la fora sómente para comprar qualquer coisa de necessidade, ou para caminhar um pouco, porque não nos atrevemos a ir ao oceano, porque parece-nos que se desencadeou uma era da “idade do gelo” convertendo a água do mar em gelo marinho total!.

(…we stay at home most of the time, going outside just to buy something we need, or to walk a little, because we don’t dare go to the ocean, because it seems to us that an “ice age” age has started converting sea water into total sea ice)!.

… e de acordo com o se ouve e vê no “six o’clock news” (noticiário das seis), toda a parte leste dos USA, tal como as Carolinas, Geórgia, até mesmo o Alabama estão com temperaturas muito baixas, mais baixas do que aqui na área onde vivemos e isto não nos parece normal e, oxalá que tudo isto não cause uma mudança na superfície do oceano de água para gelo,  podendo realmente causar um resfriamento dramático, porque vivemos numa zona semi-tropical que precisa de sol e tempo quente para que as florestas em nosso redor continuem a crescer!.

(…and according to what you hear and see on the “six o’clock news”, the entire eastern part of the USA, such as the Carolinas, Georgia, even Alabama are experiencing very low, lower temperatures, than here in the area where we live and this doesn’t seem normal to us and hopefully all this doesn’t cause a change in the ocean surface from water to ice, it could actually cause a dramatic cooling, because we live in a semi-tropical zone that needs sun and warm weather so that the forests around us continue to grow)!.

…lá fora, temos um cenário de erva e flores queimadas, que estavam desabrochando para começarem o período sazonal da primavera!. Sabemos que grande parte da região do Ártico está perdendo rapidamente o gelo marinho e, de acordo com um estudo recente, o Ártico pode ficar sem gelo por uma parte do ano até 2044!. As mudanças no Ártico têm implicações profundas para as actividades marítimas e circulações oceânicas!. Oxalá que tudo isto não seja já um reflexo do que irá acontecer no futuro!. 

(…outside, we have a scene of grass and burnt flowers, which were blooming to start the seasonal period of spring!. We know that much of the Arctic region is rapidly losing sea ice, and according to a recent study, the Arctic could be ice-free for part of the year by 2044!. Changes in the Arctic have profound implications for maritime activities and ocean circulations!. I hope that all this is not already a reflection of what will happen in the future)!.

…porque toda esta complexidade e as mudanças de clima no planeta  Terra são cientificamente interessantes, mas também têm implicações reais para a segurança da nossa infraestrutura costeira, tal como a área onde presentemente vivemos!. Esperamos e desejamos um tempo um pouco mais quente!.

(…because all this complexity and climate changes on planet Earth are scientifically interesting, but they also have real implications for the security of our coastal infrastructure, such as the area where we currently live!. We hope and wish for a little warmer weather)!.
