…aqui onde vivemos, olhamos para o relógio e, são quatro e meia da madrugada!. Lá fora a chuva torrencial chega à terra com a ajuda de um vento forte que sopra em diversas direcções, ambos iluminados por alguns clarões!. É a temporada das tempestades tropicais!.  E nós, aqui fechados, tentando proteger-nos dessa maldita epedemia do Coronavírus19, dessa febre invisível, que nos persegue vai quase para um ano, traiçoeira, surda e insencível, esperando atacar ao mais breve descuido!.

(…here where we live, we look at the clock and it’s four thirty in the morning!. Outside, torrential rain reaches the land with the help of a strong wind that blows in several directions, both illuminated by a few flashes!. It is the season of tropical storms!. And we, closed here, trying to protect ourselves from that damned eponemia of the Coronavirus19, from this invisible fever, which haunts us, goes on for almost a year, treacherous, deaf and insensitive, hoping to attack at the briefest oversight)!.

…tentando ignorar a natureza revoltada, sentamo-nos em frente ao computador, porque somos uma pessoa que, na idade de frequentar a escola andámos entretidos a trabalhar ou obrigados a participar na guerra colonial em África e, já na imigração, na idade de trabalhar e criar uma família, felizmente tivémos oportunidade de ao mesmo tempo, poder conjugar o trabalho com o andar entretidos na escola, criando um certo prazer em escrever nas horas vagas, contando as experiências com que a vida nos contemplou!.

(…trying to ignore the disgusted nature, we sat down at the computer, because we are a person who, at the age of attending school, had been busy working or forced to participate in the colonial war in Africa and, already in immigration, at the age to work and raise a family, fortunately we had the opportunity to, at the same time, be able to combine work with walking while being entertained at school, creating a certain pleasure in writing in our spare time, recounting the experiences that life has contemplated us)!.

…e, decidimos começar a escrever aqui, neste lugar onde presentemente vivemos, numa linguagem de discurso não muito académico, para que todos possam compreender e capturar a explosão repentina da luz após uma tempestade, ou a silhueta de uma palmeira na praia, curvada pelo vento ciclónico e vista num crepúsculo, onde centímetro por centímetro, encontrámos o caminho para vos descrever em cadências de uma ou duas sílabas, quase sem rítmos, sem escolha de palavras ou pontuação, todavia, testando cada parágrafo, lendo em voz alta e revisando, ouvindo o que chamamos, “a música das palavras”!.

(…and, we decided to start writing here, in this place where we currently live, in a language of not very academic speech, so that everyone can understand and capture the sudden explosion of light after a storm, or the silhouette of a palm tree on the beach, bent by the cyclonic wind and seen in a twilight, where inch by inch, we found the way to describe you in cadences of one or two syllables, almost without rhythms, with no choice of words or punctuation, however, testing each paragraph, reading aloud and reviewing, listening to what we call, “the music of words”)!.

…voltando às tempestades tropicais, vamos procurando informações aqui e ali e, esta temporada de furacões, está a acontecer actualmente junto com a pandemia COVID-19, tornando-a ainda pior, e as conclusões são de que, tanto no mar do Caribe como na costa do Atlântico, neste ano de 2020 é uma temporada de furacões extremamente activa!. 

(…returning to tropical storms, we are looking for information here and there and this hurricane season is currently happening together with the COVID-19 pandemic, making it even worse, and the conclusions are that, both in the Caribbean as on the Atlantic coast, this year 2020 is an extremely active hurricane season)!.

…as estatísticas dizem-nos mesmo que pior, só existiu no ano de 2005, colocando assim a presente temporada em segundo lugar na história!. Resumo, já por aqui passaram vinte e oito ciclones tropicais ou subtropicais, vinte e sete tempestades nomeadas, dez furacões e quatro grandes furacões, e destas, mais de vinte tempestades tropicais são recordes!. 

(…the statistics tell us that even worse, it only existed in 2005, thus placing the present season in second place in history!. In summary, twenty-eight tropical or subtropical cyclones have passed through here, twenty-seven named storms, ten hurricanes and four major hurricanes, and of these, more than twenty tropical storms are records)!.

…nós, que adoramos caminhar e passar o mais tempo possível ao ar livre e em contacto com a natureza, estes desastres naturais, alguns  devastadores, os que mais nos proporcionam receio, são os furacões, porque são responsáveis por milhares de mortes ao longo da história e, a cada ano, somos forçados a testemunhar algumas dessas terríveis tempestades!. 

(…we, who love to walk and spend as much time outdoors and in contact with nature, these natural disasters, some devastating, the ones that most fear us, are hurricanes, because they are responsible for thousands of deaths in the throughout history and, each year, we are forced to witness some of these terrible storms)!.

…alguém disse que, “Não há dúvida de que este foi um ano extremamente agitado”, no entanto, agora com meios de identificação modernos da sua aproximação e identificação, com a capacidade de vê-los e preveni-los à distância, foi uma grande vantagem para a segurança, não só marítima como também terrestre!.

(…someone said that, “There is no doubt that this was an extremely busy year”, however, now with modern means of identification of their approach and identification, with the ability to see and prevent them from a distance, it was a great advantage for safety, not only maritime but also land)!.

…mas, comparar a temporada deste ano com as dos anos anteriores seria “realmente problemático”, dado os avanços no monitoramento e detecção de tempestades que felizmente continuam a melhorar, desde a tal incrivelmente destrutiva temporada de 2005, que foi a detentora do recorde de tempestades, com ventos de algumas dezenas de milhas por hora!.

(…but, comparing this year’s season with those of previous years would be “really problematic”, given the advances in monitoring and detecting storms that fortunately continue to improve, since the incredibly destructive 2005 season, which was the owner of the record storms, with winds of a few tens of miles per hour)!.

…todavia, este ano, já aconteceram cinco grandes furacões, alguns com ventos de 100 mph ou mais, o quarto maior na era dos satélites que data de 1966, particularmente punitivas para a Costa do Golfo, onde um recorde de 10 tempestades tropicais atingiu o continente, e um pesadelo para o estado de Louisiana, onde o furacão Laura foi responsabilizado por matar pelo menos 14 pessoas!. 

(…however, five major hurricanes have already occurred this year, some with winds of 100 mph or more, the fourth largest in the satellite era dating back to 1966, particularly punitive for the Gulf Coast, where a record 10 tropical storms hit the continent, and a nightmare for the state of Louisiana, where Hurricane Laura was blamed for killing at least 14 people)!.

…de um modo ou de outro, mesmo que tenha havido algumas mortes devido a furacões, também há muitas histórias de sobrevivência heróicas com bravura e um pouco de sorte, demonstrando que mesmo nos piores momentos, quando toda a esperança parece perdida, podemos encontrar meios para sobreviver nos lugares mais estranhos!.

(…in one way or another, even though there were some deaths from hurricanes, there are also many heroic survival stories with bravery and a little luck, showing that even in the worst moments, when all hope seems lost, we can find ways to survive in the strangest places)!.

…e, dada a temporada porque passamos com o maldito COVID-19, os governos e as entidades com reponsabilidade em medicina recomendam ficar em casa e não sair à rua, todavia a natureza, com a sua revolta, não recomenda, obriga a ficar-mos todos em casa, claro, para nossa protecção!. Como ela, a natureza é inteligente e, “quando agredida, a natureza não se defende!. Apenas se vinga”!.

(…and, given the season because we spent the damn COVID-19, the governments and entities with responsibility in medicine recommend staying at home and not going out, however nature, with its revolt, does not recommend it, obliges we will all stay at home, of course, for our protection!. Like her, nature is smart and, “when attacked, nature does not defend itself!. It just takes revenge”!.
